BBC recieved just 250(!) emails about the noise so far. And ESPN said the "negative reaction wasn't overwhelming".

99.99% of the fans watch the matches on TV, and the TV stations want to sell the commercials to the huge target audiences to cover the cost of purchasing the rights. The fewer people are watching them the less money they can make, also, if people watch the matches on mute, they won't be unmuting their sets for the commercials. This is also a problem for the advertisers.

Anything that endangers their profit is a fair target for them.

It's not just about "chants", it's the crowd gasping for air in a dangerous situation, the exposion of sound when there is something happening, the Africans playing their PROPER instruments, etc.
