NBC refuses to apologize for crappy coverage and hoarding all but curling and hockey on one channel, calls anyone who streams a pirate even though no one is pirating NBC's signal:

    http://www.boston.com/sports/columnists/wilbur/2010/02/nbc_no_apology.html

If Russia or somewhere else has a problem with more viewers seeing more of their footage with their sponsors getting more viewers for their commercials, it's their problem, not NBC's.

I took NBC's response as very patronizing. They're not even trying to stream more events live nor are they even trying to show more events across their other channels, and they insult you by saying "greater good" and trying to label anyone who disagrees as a pirate.

I can only pray that in 2012 they lose the rights forever.

I live in Canadian and I really do feel bad for you Americans that have to put up with NBC's bullshit. We have CTV here and they show the Olympics 24/7 on like three different channels, all showing different events.
    >> Anonymous 02/19/10(Fri)14:49 No.3378354
We should just raid their website and be done with it. Seriously, NBC doesn't deserve to live.
    >> Anonymous 02/19/10(Fri)14:49 No.3378364
Wow, watching a stream of the BBC coverage is pirating? Even though no NBC networks are showing any sort of Olympic coverage while I'm watching said stream? Are they serious?

ABC did that when they had the rights, but apparently the IOC decided that making money was more important than people actually being able to see the Olympics.

    NBC logic:
seeing something they don't show, won't show when they edit down 90% of it for prime time or won't show at all in any capacity, therefore lost no money from broadcasting and commercials = piracy.

Those assholes need to lose the rights FOREVER. They're scum that goes beyond words.
    >> Anonymous 02/19/10(Fri)14:52 No.3378417
The last summer Olympics we had 3 channels going at once that showed more teams than just the US.

I found the NBC PR guy's contact information, if you want to complain directly to him. He's the main contact at the Olympics for all the reporters asking questions about the tape delays, and has been feeding them answers like "well, our surveys show that people want to watch TV during prime time", blah blah.

I'll make use of it, even though I doubt the arrogant pricks will care.

I can't think of anyone more deserving of losing $200 million over shit coverage than NBC, especially since they're so fucking stubborn to add more coverage across more of their channels to lower losses.

.................and NBC is showing men's figure skating from last night instead of live coverage of the Men's Super-G skiing

I can't speak for everyone but from general observations pretty much nobody in America gives a fuck about the Winter Olympics aside from a few events such as snowboarding and skating, and even then nobody wants to watch some guy from Zimbabwa skate. They only want to see the Americans and the top competition that the Americans get to stomp all over.

The summer Olympics are huge and everyone is looking forward to them, they're on all over the place and everyone is talking about them. I forgot the Winter Olympics were even airing until I came on /sp/ to discuss NBA trades. Don't get me wrong a few people want to watch some guy from North Korea skate around in spandex but not many. The winter Olympics are to the summer Olympics what Arena Football is to the NFL.

    I just turned it on.

And you fucking know they won't be showing the other American's or the Russian's fantastic performances, they'll have a fucking interview and cut to Super-G skiing briefly.

I don't know, I guess I never really felt one was better than the other. Call me a fag but I've always loved figure skating and skiing and shit.

It is getting high ratings but it's still pissing p[eople off due to the lack of whole live events.

During the day they tape-delay and edit events down tot he top finishers, then show it in Prime time.

During prime time, while live events are gong on, they show the tape-delayed shit from the day, plus lots of Bob Costas with more Bob Costas added in just in case someone missed him. That means less live coverage in prime time, so half the events are tape-delayed until late night when no one wno's fucking normal is awake, and the other half events only cut in live when Americans are winning.

I agree the coverage is terrible right now and someone should die for it, but the summer Olympics were covered very well and even if NBC gets them I'm sure we can expect them to do another decent job.

Maybe to a couple people, but to everyone else it is just a gimmick born off of the NFL's success. They should just add the only few events worth having in the WO like curling and skating to the summer olympics, and cancel everything else. Xxxxtrme snowboarding, bobsledding, and freestyle skiing can go and rot in the X-games where they belong.

Agreed. Just call them "The Olympics". Curling and hockey are indoors so who gives a fuck. Hell, doing it in the summer means the NHL doesn't have to shutdown mid season for the Olympics if they choose to allow their athletes to participate.
