a nation that celebrates materialism; we’re an economy that needs it.
We espouse wealth and use it as a barometer of a person’s worth. We are
bombarded with aspirational advertising; we are informed that the root
of happiness lies in the shiny, expensive things we, as good citizens,
should buy.
Dangle a carrot in front of people for long enough,
show them the prize but refuse to let them enter the competition, and
eventually a crescendo like this will build.
Don’t get me wrong:
I don’t think the streets are littered with ideologues. This isn’t
righteous. I just understand that it’s a little more complicated than
‘Ey up, blacks out on the rob again. Get the fucking army in’.
Seeing
these idiots smash windows and risk jail time and a wasted life of
spiralling criminality for meaningless baubles is so fucking depressing.
The hatred inspired by many on here tonight is just as bad.
As
for the government: how can either side of that warmongering pestilent
law-house pass any moral judgement? The laws they break don’t mean a few
businesses going up in smoke; they mean the deaths and mutilations of
hundreds of thousands of people.
Theresa May has condemned these
actions as ‘pure criminality’. Well, Theresa, I’ll drop you in the
middle of a Baghdad hospital and mortuary and I’ll show you pure
criminality, you fucking wretch. |
