All this team does is win. Tough Jucie out for the season? Win. Roddy B's foot still fucked up? Still gonna win. Down 23 points to start the game? LOL JOKES ON YOU WERE WINNING IN DOUBLE DIGITS.

This all relies on Dirk being healthy though, because half of Dallas' losses (HALF) were without Dirk.

    Who wrote that garbage?

A seed is based on your record, but it's being talked about like it's a player they're considering releasing. They're not going to CHOOSE to start losing games.

There's always a possibility they could lose, but they're about 5 or 6 wins ahead of the closest competition in their conference right now and they're going to keep fighting hard, so I just don't see the point in vocalizing something like this.

I really have no idea what the Mavs are capable of this year. They've been the streakiest team I've seen all year, but it looks like they came together pretty nicely. To be completely honest with you, I don't even know what the team's strength truly is; because if you look at their statistics they are pretty much exactly in the middle of the league in all of them.

    >To be completely honest with you, I don't even know what the team's strength truly is;

They're what you call 'perfectly average.'

It makes for a great regular season record, but it's going to get them dogged in the playoffs.

They'll be lucky to make it out of the second round.
    >> Anonymous 03/01/11(Tue)10:35 No.10726182
The Mavs biggest problem is the playoffs, the year they stop choking and playing soft when it matters is the year they'll finally win it all. Oh and it would be nice if someone knocked the Spurs out early.

    >They've been the streakiest team I've seen all year

You're right. Lets see, we're about to have 3 winning streaks go into double digits. Thats pretty streaky.

Their defensive 'stats' dropped because Stevenson is out of the lineup, Chandler has been in more foul trouble recently, Haywood blows dumpster dicks and Marion is being asked to compliment Terry in a scoring role morseo than a defensive one unlike the beginning of the year.

Also this is the best team from behind the arc in the league, maybe ever (At least talent/skill wise) with the addition of Peja Stojakovic. Couple that with one of the hottest little point guards in the league (who rides more pine than he should) and a dynamo frenchie 6 foot SG with a 7 foot wingspan who's taken alley oops from centers and you've got a contender. This team had no trouble scoring 95 without being able to break down the defense. Now that they've got penetrators their about to fuck LA in the ass.

Perfectly average doesn't get you competing for a #1 seed though, there has to be something missing that I'm missing. Maybe they're in an easy part of their schedule? They won 9 out of their last 10. They're road and home game records are almost identical.

He's their ball distributor. O'Neill is okay, but not on Parker's level. Sure Manu might step it up like last year, but depending on how long Parker is out for, it could severely impact their offense.

Time will tell. Oh and the Lakers? Completely not worried about them this season. They're barely a threat. Mavs are full strength, Dirk has never had such a strong team around him before. This can be our year. Like Jerry said we're a lock for at least WCF.

You can't win a 7 game series against LA by trying to drive the ball up the middle and shooting 3's like they're going out of style. Sorry, but we're just entirely too big in the middle and the best big man you have likes to shoot 3's instead of roughing it up in the paint.

They've won 16 out of 17 and the only teams in the entire league thats given them fits are the Bulls and Spurs.

Dallas swept the C's, the Heat, stomped the Lakers, had no trouble with the Magic, etc etc. The only constant in their losses was either not having Dirk (which accounted for 7 of their 14 losses) or average teams playing way above their talent level and catching Dallas on B2B road games.

I'm having trouble offering you any credibility when you say our best "Big man" can't rough it up in the paint because right now Tyson Chandler might be our best 'Big Man', and he's 2nd in the NBA in dunks. Also, the myth that Dirk is soft is just old, playa. Time and time again I've watched him back down the 'strong' 4's and 5's and hit his money fadeaway or scoop one under 4 flailing arms right under the basket to get an and 1.

Dirk pulling up in transition for a 3 is a novelty in this offense, but a novelty that produces 6 points a game. You might've watched the game against the Raptors where Dirk was nailing every 3 he put up but that's slightly out of the ordinary because his perimeter game is almost always in transition at the apex of the arc.

You can't really bet against the Spurs right now, but the past few playoffs have gone both ways (sort of like Ginobli).

Regardless of injuries or other factors, I think a series between the two will go to 7 games because getting knocked out of the playoffs is still relatively fresh on both their minds.

All I'm saying is that Tyson Chandler isn't going to be a big enough presence in the middle to get much done and most of the time Dirk will be matched up against Pau or Odom and their length could be a problem for his shots. You can't depend on 3's to win jack shit in the post season, and you aren't going to be able to cut in against the Lakers well enough to get 4 wins out of it.

Okay thats sort of stupid but I'll forgive you for th...

    >Dirk will be matched up against Pau or Odom and their length could be a problem for his shots.

Do you know what undefendable, unstoppable, irrepressible means? He's matched up against 7 footers TIME AFTER TIME AFTER TIME and usually scores in the 30's because as a few coaches know, the only way to defend Dirk is to put a lanky but fast 3 on him and pester him into early shots.

Doesn't matter if you got a fuckin 8 footer on your team, no one can block Dirk's signature fadeaway, not even Ming. Thats why every analyst and coach drools over it. If Dirk is even warm, his shot is unstoppable.

Watch more NBA, bro. The only counter Pau will have is to score his own buckets and crash the boards because one of Dirk's few weaknesses is subpar and lazy rebounding (and he still averages about 8).

Jerry. Let's just get this straight, you're going to win a playoff series by:
    A) Driving into the paint against a team with the most size in the league
    B) Shooting 3's against a team that averages 32% (I read this number a month ago, but I can't find the up to date stat anywhere. Feel free to correct me on this because I'm curious about where it is right now.)
    C) Trying to control the game tempo and not use a halfcourt offense.

Also, Spurs have the 7th best NBA record all-time for this part of the season; all other teams in that ranking have gone on to win the NBA title.

I'm not saying that statistics make San Antonio a lock, but you can't argue with the pace the Spurs are setting right now. Duncan doesn't have to play nearly as much as he did last year, so you know he'll be a beast in the playoffs. After Parker comes back from this minor injury, we have our entire lineup healthy and ready to go in the postseason.

Right now, on the Mavs current roster, there are 3 of the top 10 all time.

    #3 Jason Kidd
    #4 Peja Stojakovic
    #8 Jason Terry.

    Blow me.

Ugh. Delusional fans are hilarious. And disgustingly stupid.

The Mavericks can't, and won't, beat

    1. Spurs
    2. Thunder
    3. Lakers

    And will struggle with

    4. Portland
    5. New Orleans

They are essentially the 6th most likely team to emerge from the west.

Also the Spurs got laughed out of the playoffs 2 years ago by the Mavs, and the Mavs probably would've gone to the WCF if they didn't get fucked by the refs against Denver. I still remember the nocall on the intentional, INTENTIONAL HARD foul where Stevenson assumed the foul was getting called, it wasn't, and melo drained the game winning bucket when they were down 2.

How soon they forget. Lakers, Spurs = proven champions. Spurs playing great all season long. Lakers have flipped the switch and now you're boned.

Thunder are the team of the future, everyone knows.

You know what that makes the Mavericks? The Mavericks are the Utah Jazz of late 80s-early 90s, except less clutch.

A good team, sure. But just like the old Jazz got swept up in the era of Jordan, and won nothing... the Mavs got swept up in the Kobe era. And even if the Kobe Era is at its end... the heir apparent is not the Mavs. Several other teams are competing for that top spot.

The Thunder are definitely a team to take into consideration this year. Last year they took the Lakers to 6, and this year they have what every LA fan fears: PERKINS. I liked the Celtics until they dealt Nate Robinson... now I have to watch the Thunder!

Regardless of what happens this year, I'm excited as fuck for this year's playoffs. 3 legit teams in the West, and a possible 4th if Perkins really thrives on the Thunder, and 3 legit teams in the East with the small possibility of either the Knicks or Magic trolling a contender. My body is not even 70% ready.

It's sure to be a hell of a lot better than last year's playoffs at least.

Kobe's continuing to go down, Pau is still consistant, Fisher's actually putting better numbers, Blake is a far better option than Sexy Machine or Farmar ever was, and Bynum can beast it if he stays healthy (big if). I just wanna see what Barnes can do once he plays again and if Theo Ratliff can contribute in anyway shape or form. Also, amazingly, Odom has started to become consistant.

Their defense has become bad though, if they don't bring it back up to where it was last year on a consistent basis, they are undeniably fucked against San Antonio and Dallas
