Thought /sci/ would either get a kick out of this... or else shake their heads weeping for the human race.

FOX News came out today backing a "study" that education skews people's political opinions left/progressive/etc. FOX is now taking the position that not only does getting an education, especially a college or (heaven forbid!) graduate school education make you a no-good dirty liberal commie... it also makes you stupid.

Sounding pretty socialist there, buddy. Do you hate america or something? I won't bother waiting for your response since I'm rather busy flipping the fuck out about a single page of Captain America that I neither read nor know the context of.

Jesus Christ, are you stupid? Those universities have a liberal arts based education. Because MIT has a writing department does that mean writing is a science?

    No.

Now, there are major attempts to bring political science on a solid scientific footing, but they are not there yet. It's a really fucking difficult problem.

Here we go... bustin out wikipedia on this one:

Political science is a social science concerned with the theory and practice of politics and the description and analysis of political systems and political behavior. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poli_sci)

Social sciences may draw upon empirical methods and attempt to emulate the standards of conventional scientific practice. By contrast, other social scientists employ critical analysis or hermeneutic methods to study objects of enquiry they regard as inconsistent with the conventional approach. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_science)

Science (from the Latin scientia, meaning "knowledge") is, in its broadest sense, any systematic knowledge-base or prescriptive practice that is capable of resulting in a prediction or predictable type of outcome. In this sense, science may refer to a highly skilled technique or practice.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science)

    Pretty consistent terminology.

    http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE61F33V20100216

    >WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama announced $8.3 billion in loan guarantees on Tuesday to build the first U.S. nuclear power plant in nearly three decades in a move designed to help advance climate legislation in Congress.

The nuclear lobby, one of the most well-funded lobbying groups in global politics, succeeds again and its brainwashed cheerleaders played their part spectacularly.

Yes, and the south facing side of my house along with the south facing portion of my roof provide me with about 150 sq meters of surface area on which to affix solar panels.

So, at only 100w/sq meter I have 15 kW of electricity. I'd say thats certainly enough to run household appliances.

Thats not the scale I was suggesting we apply the technology.

How often do people replace their shingles/siding? Solar panels last about 25-30 years.

How to dispose of nuclear waste:

    1 - build space elevator
2 - take waste to higher point
3 - launch waste into space with just enough energy to escape the gravity of the Earth
    4 - problem solved
