It is 2010, the world is far bleaker and duller than anyone in the past ever imagined.

There are no space oddysseys, no contact with life on other planets, not even a single civilian orbital habitat.

There is no artificial intelligence worth shouting about, no androids, no coffee machines you can have a conversation with, no matter teleportation, you still have to drive your car, your car can't fly, and works more or less exactly like it did 40 years ago only ONE civilian maglev train and it doesn't even go very fast, niggers in Africa are still dying of hunger covered in flies, people still worship the sky god to get into candy mountain, we do not live in arcologies, we do not entertain ourselves in immersive virtual reality.

The world is calling the iPad the technological revolution of our time. The big lifestyle changer. Our dreams have died, and we have stagnated into mindless collectors of useless shit that's the same thing as we had in the 1980s with bigger numbers and prettier cases.

Nobody cares about the future of humanity - big companies who could actually make some epic stuff only care about money.

Best example is Apple, shamelessly and successfully exploiting the stupidity of the people.
Instead of actual innovation they sell us ancient hardware in shiny cases for ten times the actual price.

News are manipulative, profit-orientated and support all this bullshit and get millions of fucktards to believe their conspiracy stories.

Fucking everybody's getting converted into a fucking hipster downloading alternative indie rock on their Macbooks in Starbucks via iTunes.
The population is getting gradually more stupid and we're wasting our last essential resources for microchip-production on Mac parts and Fermi flamethrowers.

Why bother living for the future if it's just going to be more fucking iPads and other pointless shit.

    I want REAL technology /sci/

    >your car can't fly

Wrong, flying street legal cars already exist and are being manufactured and the expected release date is 2011. The Personal Air and Land Vehicle(pictured) has already passed certification and safety tests in Europe. In the US the Terrafugia looks pretty promising and costs about as much as a luxury sports car.

And wow what a shock, money makes the world go round.

Just going to say "The Internet." Honestly think back to the 60's no one could have predicted what the internet would become in 50 years. Think about the 90's. We can now get access to the internet anywhere we want all around the world from mobile phones. The internet is one of man's greatest inventions and despite the outside world being "dull and bleak" on the internet, life is A-O.K.

With the advancements in cloning alone we could live like 500 years, and if food is a problem we could just clone food. If the space we take is a problem we could always build huge sky scrappers. And with the increase of human population, the number of brilliant minds would increase, therefore we could live in space in no time.

But stupid people won't let us because we're playing God and we're evil because we want more.

Now think about the advancements that could be done in nanotechnology and other areas and imagine how far we could go in little time

It's not the direct impact of nuclear weapons that's so bad, it's the indirect impact of destroying infrastructure and making places potentially inhabitable.

Also geoengineering will become common as climate change progresses, it would be very unlikely that geoengineering wouldn't have military uses. Why invade a country when you are destroy their climate?

I'm sorry, but I find it hard to imagine a mob of obese people carrying iPod in their pocket doing that. Asianfag here.

    >I want REAL technology /sci/
    >WAAHHH why won't people do things FOR me?!
If you want change, do something about it. I'm so sick of people bitching to /sci/ about where technology is today without even making an attempt to contribute.

Depends, it can be successful if :

Most of the population revolts or if we become as extreme as terrorists. It's kinda hard to make a revolution without bringing the country to chaos and begin anew.

I don't have to point out all the errors with this, do I?

I'd like to see it. I'm betting you just disagree with this, but have no actual evidence to back it up.

righto. it just had nothing to do with your post, as retardedly stereotypical as it was, that's all.

Play Bioshock, you now see what happens with unrestricted scientific research. It went pretty well untill you put people into the equation.

Oh sorry, just happened to point out something clear as day. It isn't the fact that a "Science City" sounds like a bad '50s comic or that it seems like the same things that OP pointed out would happen there anyway, it was the fact that anyone who understands human nature at the most childish levels would see that would be the downfall of such a concept.
    >> Anonymous 05/22/10(Sat)10:21 No.994040
    I agree OP.

/sci/ I propose that we buy an Island in the Pacific and start a Scientopia. We can all be Scientologists...okay not really but I lol'd a little.

Entry into the country can be gained by achievement and intelligence, those that want to stay will have to qualify as well. I'm not too opposed to having a civilization much like Sparta from 300. We can have a mutually beneficial relationship with the US. We can ship them goods, in exchange for protection, and tariff-free agricultural goods.
