Ever wondered what it would be like to inside Chernobyl? Well, that documentary shows you. They taped Russian physicists as they conducted experiments inside the sarcophagus without any protective clothing other than cloth respirators. Keep in mind this is a building that has rooms with radiation levels so high that a person would exceed their lifetime radiation limit in a matter of minutes.

While you're watching, note how in the 10 year follow up everyone who was involved with the science team and died was given a cause of death of "heart failure".

    Fuck yeah, quads GET!

Anyway, I forgot to mention, also notice when you watch the documentary all artifacts you see from the footage inside the power plant. You know, things like film specs and extreme motion blur when a bright object changes location. That's how fucked up the radiation is in there.

The radiation was contributing to film overexposure through the camera's casing.

Jurassic Park, and other stuff off crichton books. They're mostly techno-babble, but have enough of a foot in the door of realism to inspire a little imaginative thought on science, at least for me anyway.

I'm not sure what the exact reason is (I'm a neuroscientist not a physicist) but I know it has to do with the film being pre-exposed by radiation inside the camera (in neuroscience we take advantage of that phenomena with autoradiography). It's definitely an effect of the radiation since you see that effect in every Chernobyl documentary when they're near a high radiation area but never anywhere else. For example, there's some other documentaries on google video with a lot of footage from just after the accident and you see those effects all over the place.

If you have the attention span (and the interest), check out the non-vocal "documentaries." Like Baraka, Microcosmos, Koyaanisquatsi, Winged Migration, ect... I admit, they aren't exactly scientific, but show a lot of things that I think /sci/ would find interesting.

The problem I have with a lot of documentaries is that they either don't go very deep into the subject matter, or they are propaganda-like tripe. But, nevertheless, there are many that are fun to watch, like Galapagos, Planet Earth. I actually enjoyed the "life of plants" series, although I only watched it once. There are several BBC documentaries that can be a little informative if I can remember any... "the city addicted to crystal meth" and "why are thin people not fat," were fun.

Also, I like the "How It's Made" and "How They Do It" shows on the science channel.

...and that's really about it for me.
