What if you were to leave a child in world where education is not forced upon him, but rather he is open to his imagination and curiosity? Would he end up as any other "educated" person in the world, fully acclimated and your average citizen, or would he grow up a fool and a burden on those around him? Discuss.

Are we talking about that video about that uneducated girl again?

if he grew up in America, he would go towards that which seeks him: commercialized products that appeal to our most basic senses.

What does ecstasy do? It just short cuts your brain to receiving a reward factor so you can feel pleasure. That's what American culture gives you: the quickest and fastest and most extremes forms of pleasure.

I had no idea of such a video, I was just curious if such a project has occurred and what was everyone's thoughts.

Let us assume that he is left in the home of his parents, with a mother and father who are both professors that are studying the effects of generalized education and societies effects on our minds. So he has the resources to learn of and study upon anything he wishes.

The person would most likely end up as a poorly qualified worker and member of the lower classes, unable to further his skills and career.

There is, of course, a small chance for him being able to succeed somehow (as there have been cases of this), but chances are far lower than if the person in question had had formal education.

I'd actually argue that the child could potentially be better educated as a result of having more time and inclination to learn things rather than losing the majority of each day at school and coming home late tired and frustrated.

Having said that, I had a pretty negative experience with school, it's quite possible that the average person would benefit more from formal education.

OP what you may be describing is a form of education known as unschooling.

I think he'd come to some existentialist career aspirations like art or surfing. I think what drives scientists more than anything is fear (as fear is the sole evolutionary purpose of us having intellect) and a need to figure it out. If the kid experiences fear often, he'll probably seek to understand things. If he has no need to, I don't see why he wouldn't just end up living a simplistic life if his allows him such a thing.
