Well, its time, /sci/. Fox News has "Don’t Drink the Water" as their main headline right now. The article itself is about eight sentences of the view that flouridated water is bad for you, versus four or so that describe it as normal (though, the scientist they interviewed "can't explain" certain things, but the activist isn't asked to explain the lack of scientific studies showing fluoridated water to be harmful).

    http://liveshots.blogs.foxnews.com/2010/04/16/dont-drink-the-water/

This is just another example of Fox News behaving more like a tabloid than a news organization. And don't try and claim its just an opinion piece because its a blog; its the largest and most prominently placed article on their front page.

Flouride is good when it is not ingested.

That's why they tell you to rinse your mouth after brushing.

When it is ingested, it causes neurological problems and lowers intelligence. It also weakens the bones.

Requesting the study done that states this, and any relevant peer reviews. It would also be nice if you could outline dosages relevant to those ailments, and the average dosage, or how many parts fluoride, is in a standard cup of tap water.

I don't really disagree with fluoridated water, however, I think that it's kind of unnecessary and it obviously causes huge butthurt from various people. I don't think anyone would complain if the was was reverted back to normal, but they do complain when it's flouridated.

What they should do is to just have lots of flouride in mouthwash. You aren't supposed to swallow that anyway and so there is practically officially zero room to complain about side effects.

Inb4 someone points out that there is already fluoridated mouthwash; I use it myself. I'm just saying it'd be a good thing if they all had it. It's not a necessity but it's a better avenue to get fluoride on teeth than just putting it in the water.

If people didn't care enough about dental hygeine to mouthwash often anyway, then a little extra flouride should be an even more minor issue for them since it has to do with something that isn't mega important to them in the first place.

But hey, people love to complain and be faggots if it means that they get to feel important/have a cause, stand on a soapbox and shout et cetera.

If it does, it's required in large doses. Doses too large to be gained through drinking the average amount of tap water every day, or simply rinsing your mouth out after brushing your teeth.

The claims that the Government is somehow trying to kill you all with fluoride is ridiculous, and unsubstantiated. Does fluoride have adverse affects? Yes. In HIGH doses. Doses unobtainable by the average person going about his average day. Do the benefits outweigh the almost nonexistent problems that you simply will not get in your average day? Yes.

Thats not really a good example. We have no way of knowing it was the flouride that was actually helping because all of the variables. Coulda been an after school special convincing children and parents alike to brush and floss more often that saved all those teethies.
Basically the problem with that statement is the same as the problem with the statement "the dissaperance of pirates has caused global warming". Pirates may have reduced in numbers at the same time CO2 levels increased, but that does not necessarily mean the two things are related.
