  • Kimmo Alm aka "Sysop" from AnT has been spamming us for YEARS now, and has recently stepped it up. This shit has got to fucking stop. As promised, here are all of the e-mails he has sent me over the years (and my responses).

We've done all we can do about him. We've banned THOUSANDS of proxies, and deleted OVER A HUNDRED THOUSAND spam posts. His attacks continue though, and we've reached the limit of what we can do.
edit: we aren't going to add captcha.

Do any biologists know why hunger seems to cease to exist if one doesn't eat for a long time?

I am assuming the amount of energy I need to sustain my current weight is about 2000 kcal. Yesterday I ate only ~1800kcal, but felt pretty hungry. I went to bed hungry but woke up this morning feeling fine with no real apitite.. I ate anyway, but today I have only consumed ~900kcal and have no desire for more food.

This has happened in the past, I have gone an entire week barely eating and only stopped because I became ill.

What is the biological mechanism that causes an absense of food to cause the mind to not want food?

    Not a biofag.
Maybe your body was using your stored fats at that point.

Don't know, if we can figure out I bet we can stop obesity.

    >The fluctuation of leptin and ghrelin hormone levels results in the motivation of an organism to consume food. When an organism eats, adipocytes trigger the release of leptin into the body. Increasing levels of leptin results in a reduction of one's motivation to eat. After hours of non-consumption, leptin levels drop significantly. These low levels of leptin cause the release of secondary hormone, ghrelin, which in turn reinitiates the feeling of hunger.

I also lose my hunger when I go to sleep.

Either your mind acclimates to ghrelin or ghrelin levels drop after a while.

If that was the case I'd be real hungry right now.

    Oh, an oversaturation of ghrelin?

If smell receptors are overloaded the smell sensation weakens and eventually vanishes, so I assume it is like that?

I believe it's just another example of sensory fatigue. But you should probably ask Mr. Owl.

After about 3 days without food your body starts burning fat. But it cannibalizes other resources to a lesser extent too (muscle) and the fat support infrastructure remains in place so it's far easier to gain back the 40 lbs you dropped than it was to pack 'em on in the first place.
    >> Anonymous 03/14/10(Sun)17:37 No.512724
Your body probably said fuck you and broke up proteins for energy.

Hunger never goes away. It only lessens in intensity after a week or so.
