/sci/ approved movies/games/tv shows thread.
primer
How could you possibly support that movie. It was abominable on all levels. See? It even made me use a pretentious word to describe it!
inb4 primer, cosmos, moon and pi.
I shall be the first to say mythbusters.
"Wonders of the Solar System" -UK BBC program (is actually quite good)Eureka - US tv show.MythbustersProof (US movie)Donnie Darko
>>507846>the core
>>507846This movie = epic geologist facepalm
>>507858>How could you possibly support that movie.because he wrote the script
>>507853>>507863GOD DAMMIT STUPID INTERNET
>>507866>mythbusters
>>507886They don't show the science behind it, but it's more scientific and interesting than most TV shows.
>>507886
>>507863I believe I am the only one who always mentions Pi in these threads... No, really. I've never seen anyone else do that. So, err.... Pi was pretty good.
>>507935A friend of mine who hated math loved the ending of pi. "See? He drilled the math out of his head. That's how much math sucks." I cried a little inside.
The Core is disapproved by /sci/, OP.It is full of shit and it stinketh.
>>507966>implying OP is not just an obvious troll.
>>507935It was pretty good.
>>507990http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gV67Sj2jkVg
>>507981Some other day, anon told me that they fucked up with Pi from the 8th or 9th number on...Even though it is insignificant for the movie, I'd be seriously disappointed if it was true.I guess I'm a horrible person after all
>>507853I'd SO like to watch primer. But this picture keeps me from doing that. I really like complex films, but if I start watching it I can guarantee that I will stop everything I'm doing until I understand it. Which seems impossible according to the pic. Should I watch it anyway? Please note that I am a horrible person and can't appreciate things I haven't fully understood yet
>>508104Ignore the fanon timeline completely and watch the movie. It will take probably only two to three viewings to come up with your own totally consistent theory.
>>507866What's Eureka about?Primer is pretty good
>>508123This show is *about* science but does not *contain* science. I couldn't stand it. To me it felt like the moments in action movies where the scientist character spouts a few lines of badly juxtaposed scientific jargon to explain away the blatantly impossible thing that just happened, but used as the basis for a tv series.
>>508110is there a place where one can watch primer for free? I can't find it anywheres
The Creation movie was pretty good and it was about Darwin.
How am I the first person to say Cosmos?
>>508197If you cannot afford Netflix, sell your PC because you are obviously dirt poor.
>>508197Someone could hypothetically do use these to watch it for free, but that would be stealing.http://www.bittorrent.com/http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4472154/Primer%5B2004%5DDvDrip.AC3%5BEng%5D-aXXo
>>508197http://www.megaupload.com/?d=11N4OEZOOne second on Google. Was that so hard?
>>508216because that's not a movie but a tv series, also a pretty shitty and lay one to be honest.
ghost in the shell stand alone complexrequired viewing
Copenhagen Fallout
>>508346god that show/movie is bad
>>508123eureka is about an average guy who ends up in a secret town full of science geniuses.they make wacky inventions, which go wrong, and he has to sherrif the town. There's a whole bunch of long words strung together to sound good but any idiot knows it's rubbish stuff going on. There is ZERO science content.and all the events are impossible. not just "we don't have the tech yet" or "suspend disbelief it might happen if we tweak a law or two" but straight up flat out nonsense like you'd get from a 6 year old.
Its fun to watch, however whacky it actually is.
I am going to throw out a vote for Big Bang Theory, just throwing it out there...
>>508414But then you realize that's how a layman views most the things that science says and it makes you sadface.
>>508464Seconded. I lol often simply because the science is right for once on a TV show.
>>508483Oh good, I thought I was going to be alone on that vote...
>>508216Fucking this
i fucking loved Sunshine, also must not forget Contact
>>508586>implying sunshine is /sci/ approvedwhat the fuck?
really? only one person that said cosmos?
>/sci/ approved movies etc>nobody mentions 2001>rage
>>507846Eureka (1978)http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0212659/
>>508464someone told me it was a comedy, but its not funny
I'm quite the fan of Dr Who.
The Secret Life Of Machines
totally legit science
>>508216Cosmos doesn't need to be said. It's like if someone asked "I'm doing a project related to Christianity, can anyone give me some interesting texts related to it?" and responding with "uh yeah the bible you retart"
>>511230SCIENCE!
>>5083300/10
>>507846we watched that movie in physics classpretty funny
Bump for moar
>>507846Truthfully, I rather liked The Core. Ignoring all of the bullshit the movie was wrapped in, it was entertaining enough to watch.

Sunshine.
>>511654I loved it. It had a point. But /sci/? Maybe not so much.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this yet.
K-19The china syndrom
>>511684MY GOD YOU HAVE GOOD TASTE GOOD MAN
What about this?
the required viewing list for /sci/
>>511725no Planetes? you best be trolling, nigger.
>>511725>One Piece>TrigunMaybe if you are 15.
>>511725>one piecelol
>>511725>>511731There's very few animes with any reasonable science to it, Planetes is one (Still very unplausible) and perhaps Moonlight Mile, but i haven't seen it yet
>>511735Genetic engineeringMarine explorationAltering endocrine system EvolutionGigantismTaxonomyChemistryIt has it allI'd be hard pressed to find a anime more /sci/ related than One Piece>>511734DesertificationNatural disastersCloningTrigun is also very /sci/ related
>>511758
>>511758>One Piece>ScientificYeeeah... No.
>>511758I don't think so, Tim.
You now realize that the color combination of OPs pic is orange/blue.
>>511892fuuuuuu not another one
>>507896Testing by experiment is the foundation of science, but without rigor, you don't have the data to demonstrate whether the findings of your experiment is statistically significant, or your conclusion relevant. The Mythbusters do not do science.
>>511931The problem is that Mythbusers is a TV show. People do not want to watch them put antacid in a glass 100 times to get a reliable average.
Ergo Proxy. One of my favorite animesFirst episodes are a little LOL DEEP but gets much betterDon't watch it expecting much action, though
Asking for recommendations is futile.People don't mention something that is actually of value or quality, but something that is their favourite. More often than not, their favourite is either something rather popular or something they happen to remember.
>>511947Yeah, I get that it's entertainment, not education. But my beef is that they still bill themselves as both entertainment and education. They could put in a bit of effort not to give the wrong impression on how it is supposed to be done. For instance, instead of showing 100 runs of an experiment, they could say something like "we tried this 100 times, here's one example of what happened. Then we tried it 100 times with a control group, here's one example of that", and then just tell us the averages. That would teach people more about science than their current format.
Bill Nye the Science Guyit's got science in the name THE MOTHER FUCKING NAME/thread
>>512036So the scientific method of problem, hypothesis, research, experimentation, analysis, and conclusion is less important in science education than the idea of "do things a lot of times?" I think it's better to show people not totally familiar with science how to approach things objectively and construct experiments to isolate variables. Doing something a bunch of times isn't that complicated. Get people interested and teach them some basic skills. Rigorous testing is necessary for significant scientific theory advancement, but Mythbusters is likely trying to expand the number of people even interested in science. Also, imagine how huge their budget would be if they had to perform those experiments a statistically significant number of times.
>>511987Shit yeah, Ergo Proxy is one of my favorite animes. Not too long or too short either.But no one I mention it to has heard of it ;_;
