Pruning algorithm changed on the NWS boards to be based on popularity instead of time (this was already the method used on WS boards and /b/ & /r9k/).
EDIT: Bumps on WS boards changed to 300, and image replies 150.

I agree completely. Always have a pencil and a mathematical A4 pad in front of my laptop.

If making mistakes wasn't an issue for me, I'd use a pen...

But I'm not a grad student looking to rigorously maintain a lab notebook, so it doesn't matter. Point is, I love erasers.

In real labs, you can't erase because that may mean that you changed your results. You draw a single line through it and initial it. My intro chem lab was super-strict about this and I imagine real chemists (and other scientists) are even more careful about it.

I don't know, I am proud of my yellow paper. occasionally there are computer science students who come and take grad level math courses. you can tell who they are: they are taking notes on a laptop or (ugh) a tablet pc. they are also the ones who drop early.

It is a sad truth. In a perfect world we'd all be 100% trust worthy and I could save space by erasing mistakes.

yellow paper has better contrast and photocopies nicely; also it's clear what is a photocopy and what is an original.

yellow paper isn't used much in the uk ;_;

If you erase and anyone disputes your results & looks at your lab notebooks it looks like you intentionally falsified data. In the real world you CAN get fired for this if you're working on something big.

Real scientists use pens, cross out mistakes, initial them, and write down the correction.

Erasers have no place in the real scientific world. NO PLACE I SAY!

holy shit thats gay, all they have to do is solve the equation (correctly) and then they can see that you were right all along.
>> Anonymous 03/07/10(Sun)15:23 No.462565
>>462544
At this level you're talking about about things that take weeks to work out. Nobody is going to pay that cost just to separate falsified data from innocent corrections when you can just avoid the whole problem.

No, I wish it were homosexual. Fuck, if science were more homosexual, I'd be changing my major in a heartbeat and going to grad school for the gay fucking orgy.

Then we'd be as fucking gay as we pleased while still crossing out our mistakes. Fucker.
