Hardly end of the world but yeah, solar flares could pretty much destroy every single relevant electrical device on and in the orbit of the Earth if it's big enough. We have only had electricity for a short period of time and during that time we haven't really been hit by anything insane.

but I doubt this 2013 thing will mean world ending flares. At best it hits somewhere and knocks the electrical grid offline for a day or so like that of the March 1989 flare.

But yes, 2013 is a period when we should expect powerful solar flares, that's basically correct.

Yea, i've been warning people and trying to give my family and friends a heads up about this for a few years now.
NASA just tries not to say it too loudly so people won't lose what little respect for them they have left

heres a fun little thing to read about them
its sorta like a brief history of solar stroms and thier effects on earth

    hahaha

Anyways, this provides a good example of how media warps science. Let's examine.

    Original Source: NASA (http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2010/04jun_swef/)
Statement: Solar weather is potentially very harmful, so we need to keep a close eye on the sun. Luckily, we've just launched yet another solar observation satellite, the SDO, so we have a good chance of averting the disaster.

Phase 1, the direct quotes. (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/06/16/solar_storms/)
    >In 2013, the earth will be attacked from space, with one possible outcome being mind-bogglingly severe disruption to our tech-centric way of life.

Phase 2, the quotes of the quoters (http://www.metro.co.uk/news/830946-end-of-the-world-will-2013-space-storm-kill-us-all-off)
    >End of the world: Will 2013 space storm kill us all off?

    Phase 3, what OP posted
    >End of the World in 2013 Says NASA

Amusing, yes? I'm sure we've all seen that comic showing the progression, but it's interesting to study a real life example like this.

the modern world depends on electricity.
i have a chronic illness and depend on this technology to get me my medicine.

what the fuck am I going to do.

You can protect yourself and your technology. Look it up

I understand that. But the machines that manufacture my medication, and the cooling systems that keep it at a low temperature until I need to inject it probably do not.

Plus, it costs 1k an injection and my insurance needs electricity to pay for it.

    I'm fucked.

    No, you aren't. See >>4580363

The sky isn't falling. This shit is a misquoting of something NASA hypothesized two years ago. There's been little further evidence since.
