I'll start us off with an easy one....

    >There are 2 people, and 2 doors. Behind one door is all the money in the world, behind another is immediate death. Your only goal is to get through the correct door.

    >The two people know which door is which. You can ask either of them ONE question. However, one person will ALWAYS tell lies, and the other will ALWAYS tell the truth. No matter what.

    >What question do you ask (and why), to 100% guarantee you walk through the correct door?

This is a fairly common one I think, I'll post the answer in a while. Contribute with your own.

The truth teller would tell you the correct door, thus he would assume the other guy would say the incorrect door so would tell you to go in the incorrect door.

IIRC the answer is to ask person A what would person B answer if I asked which door has the money

If person A was truthful, B would lie, so A would tell you the door B would suggest: The wrong door.

If person A lied, B would tell the truth, so A would tell you the opposite of what B would (truthfully) suggest: The wrong door.

if he answered yes to the first question, that would mean he was either the actual truth teller or a toggler lying. Either way garuntees his next answer will be truthful.

The only way to answer no to the first question is if he was a toggler telling the truth, which means his next answer would be a guaranteed lie

There are 5 people, 1 of these 5 will always tell the absolute truth. The other 4 will either lie or tell the truth when asked a question, and they will alternate from lying to telling the truth every time they are asked something. They are known as togglers.

You don't know who is who, but they do. In addition, you don't know which "state" they start off in (either lying or telling the truth).

You have 2 questions to identify with certainty who the "absolute" truth teller is. These questions can be asked to any one, (same person twice, 2 different people, etc.)

Think about it. You ask him who is who, and he's lying... you get something like this...

    If lying...
    "Liar, liar, truth, liar, truth."
If he's telling the truth, you get...
    "Truth, truth, liar, truth, liar."

Then you ask him "Who is a lair, and who is a truth teller, as if they were already asked a question."

If he's telling the truth, then he will say the same answers as if he toggled, since all the others would have toggled with him. Likewise for the other way.

But one person won't have changed, the truth teller, so he is the only one who would be different.

You are in a room with six other people, playing a party game. The host is going to come in and put a hat on each of your heads. You won't be able to see your own hat's color; you will only be able to see the hats on the other partygoers. You may not communicate in any way during this. The host will then come around and privately collect your answers. The only thing you know about the hats is that there are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and white hats, but the host has at least 7 of each color, so you won't be able to determine your hat's color by elimination.

If one of you gets your own hat color right, you all win the game. If you all fuck it up, you suck, and deserve to die. How do you win this game 100% of the time? Quick, discuss it with the other party guests.

Say purple is the truth teller.
Lie: Red will say Red, Green, Orange, Purple.
Truth: Red will say Red, Green, Orange, Yellow.

Then since purple will always respond with the truth, he wont tolerate someone lieing about him, and he will speak up and say "No, hes lieing, i am the truth-teller"

Lining up behind someone is a form of communication. Each of you must make the decision based on no other information other than anything you agree before you see any hats and what color the hats of the other people are and that is ALL you may use.

I got it. It's so easy I cannot believe it took me as long as it did, I should have seen it right away lol.

There are 6 colors and 6 players, therefore if everyone is assigned a single color and guesses that no matter what then someone will always be right.

I have wanted since getting into an argument with my entire 8th grade classroom over a decade ago to know how this indicates the speaker.

My father's son: Me, or my brothers.
I have no brothers, so "My father's son" refers to me.

    This man's father is Me.

Therefore, this man is me? What the fuck?

In 1998 I figured, whatever... the solution was wrong and my class is full of retards. But now /sci/ is also saying it refers to himself. What the hell. How? How is it not his son?

Trick quesiton, you cant interact in any way during the game, therefore there is no 100% guarantee to win. There are 7 colors with 7 hats each and 6 people. No possible way for a 100% chance.

The one speaking is the father. The other engineer is his son. The son's father is the speaker. The son of the speaker's father is the speaker.

    red without loss of generality
6 red (from yours) = 5 red, 1 not red or 6 red (from red’s)
4 red, 2 not red (from yours) = 3 red, 3 not red or 4 red, 2 not red (from red’s or not red’s)
2 red, 4 not red (from yours) = 1 red, 5 not red or 2 red, 4 not red (from red's or not red's)
For majority cases, plan for the individual to say the majority. Unless it's in the extreme case, there should always be a color that is in twos. Designate a system in which, when a split case occurs, one color will have priority over the other (white > red), so anyone who sees a split says the color that is in higher priority.

In one perspective, the most extreme case would be all 6 having the different colors. Plan to have a 'settled' word that anyone who sees all different colors uses. Let this color be white.

Basically, say the majority, and everyone else will do the same, guaranteeing at least one will get it right (Dunno how to prove this, but it seems it can work?). If one person sees a split, say the one in higher priority.

    Oh, that changes EVERYTHINNGGG.
Tell each person to write down a specific color. Chance of winning is like 99.99999999, so thats close enough :).

Okay /sci/ we are stepping it up a notch, this is from an MIT exam:

There are 100 perfect logicians who are competing in a game show. All of their foreheads have been painted by an unknown color and they are placed in a room, they sit in a circle and are told:

    1. "At least one of you has your forehead painted blue."
    2. "As soon as you deduce that your forehead is blue, leave the room."
    3. "Everyone competing is a perfect logician."

    This is how they play:
(the room starts out pitch black)
    - the lights are turned on and the logicians are allowed to look around at each others foreheads.
    - the lights are turned off again, and this is when those who have figured it out are allowed to leave
    repeat the above 2 steps.

THAT IS ALL, no talking. Only looking around at the others. No form of communication is allowed.

Now here is the trick of the game show: ALL of their foreheads are painted blue.

So what happens, when, and why?
    >> Anonymous 03/01/12(Thu)20:19 No.4423216
Everyone leaves the second times the lights are turned out.

After the first round of seeing the logicians see that everyone has a blue number, they can't be certain if they have a blue number or not so no one leaves. After the lights are turned on for a second time they see that no one has left the room, meaning that no one was certain if they had a blue number or not. Since they are all perfect logicians they conclude that every other person in the room only saw blue numbers, which tells them that they have a blue number on their forehead and everyone leaves.
    >> Anonymous 03/01/12(Thu)20:28 No.4423241
    >>4423202
Now for a variety of this question. They are not sitting in a circle, but are in separate cubicles with a computer that locates each logician. Half are blue, half are not blue. The logicians are only able to choose, from a pool of logicians who are numbered, the foreheads of 10 other logicians at a time to look at. What would happen? If the logicians can determine if they have blue or not, how many steps would it take?

Answer: Without some form of communication, the contestants might as well be sitting on their own in a pitch black soundless room. Therefore they can never be 100% sure, so they never get up. (As obvious as it is with 99 other people all sitting in a room with the same color painted on their heads, you can never be 100% sure of your color unless they communicate to you in some form what your color is).
