  • We are still working on some of the outstanding CloudFlare issues. We are aware of an issue affecting IE users where all images are saved as BMP and are working on a fix. We will also be sending proper Last-Modified headers on HTML starting early next week (works on our end, waiting on a fix from CDN). And still tracking down the issues with posting/accessing sys.4chan.org.

I've gotten a few e-mails from Australian users about difficulty resolving 4chan DNS and accessing the site. If you are affected, please e-mail moot@4chan.org with more specifics like your ISP, and what the 4chan subdomains are resolving to (run "nslookup boards.4chan.org" and "nslookup www.4chan.org" from command prompt/terminal).

    Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!
    Love, mootykins

625 KB University: The /sci/-guide for High Schoolers Anonymous 11/25/11(Fri)00:46 No.4064929
    High School /Sci/entists:

Admittedly your high school science courses are lacking; you aren't going to start a significant foray into sciences until you reach university. Therefore, it is very important to consider which universities you should go to.

Research is very important. It will teach you more about whichever field you want to study than any class will because it imparts knowledge in a practical manner. Research is important to learning science, but also greatly increases your chances of getting into graduate school and being able to score jobs at job interviews.

Look for universities with large departments in your field of interest; if you don't know what you want to specifically do in your field make sure your department has a broad array of research interests. For example, if you want to do materials chemistry Northwestern is a very fine school, but their department is limited.

The schools you should look at, as a scientist, are state schools and elite private universities. Don't waste your time with small liberal arts schools -- they won't have a selection of research and any bonehead can learn textbook science.

    Shamelessly plagiarizing the following post:

Its also not about the degree, It is about the classes.

I finished my major in biology (30 bio credits, including the intro bio (6), orgo, gen chem, genetics(3), microbio(3), bio-informatics (3) requirements)

...and I finished it in junior year. Instead of proceeding to take classes in....pottery or some useless art I decided to take 21 more fucking credits.

    Why? Because...
    1. I can
    2. Its fun
    3. Its useful for lab jobs.

Speak to ANY fucking professor. ANY ONE. They will tell you the following.

    1. It isn't about your GPA, it is about the classes you take.
    2. Also your recommendation letters matter, so don't...be an asshole.
    3. RESEARCH EXPERIENCE. Getting published or doing something noteworthy with your time proves that you are not some ROBOT, but a REAL SCIENTIST with COGNITIVE ABILITIES and REAL EXPERIENCE.

If you check the porn website she is on, you would probably find out that she thought that "Lab" meant "Dog".

In your opinion, is Waterloo a good choice for CS? Largest mathematics and CS research lab in NA.

Torn between Waterloo and U of T.

Yeah that's why I went to university of maryland for physics. I could have gotten into a better overall school (I didn't apply). But Maryland's physics department is top fifteen, but also fucking huge and broad (We apparently have the largest physics department in the world). Makes it almost easy to find someone to research with.

I disagree with not going to small liberal arts colleges. It gives you a chance to start on research early and get to know your professors well (get good letters of recommendation). I went to a small liberal arts college and I'm in grad school at Harvard now.
