    It's not my document.
I've applied for permission to edit it but I was just reposting the best final iteration that came out of the original link thread a month ago.

    Basically, either:

    a) As soon as I get permission to do so
    or
    b) As soon as the creator of the doc does so.

Let's just hope that the creator of the document has it linked to an email address that he/she uses frequently -- I believe that they do.

It's probably the TLD thanks to how many linkspam sites use it.

Regardless, you should never post any google TLD except .com on 4chan since people can have their language settings fucked by using a foreign google link.

It's Chris Dougherty's course "Introduction to Econometrics" from the London School of Economics. An extremely accessible, but it's an essential part of an economist's toolkit.
You don't have to be an LSE student to literally do the course since video lectures, hand outs, problem sets, data sets, slide shows, past exam papers and mark schemes are all available without the need for a password.

Shouldn't that list then also include atheism as it obviously has an effect on societies in which it is practised?

Even as a control group, it would still make sense to include it.

Now the deadpan crazy idiots who argue that everything about religion is true evil and everyone who believes in a God is subhuman, they should GTFO. But the same goes from the equivalent fundamentalists on the religious side.

Actually, why don't we just keep both of them out of this. It would be better for all involved.

    Hi there!
You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making! Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

Although.. Strange... It's letting anyone download anything right now. Maybe I'll reconsider.

If you wouldn't mind submitting that using the form, I'll get to it as soon as I'm able to make a decision.

People say to me, “Are you looking for the ultimate laws of physics?” No I am not. I am just looking to find out more about the world. And if it turns out there is a simple ultimate law that explains everything so be it. That would be very nice discovery. If it turns out it’s like an onion with millions of layers and we just sick and tired of looking at the layers then that’s the way it is! But whatever way it comes out it’s nature, it’s there, and she’s going to come out the way she is. And therefore when we go to investigate we shouldn’t pre-decide what it is we are trying to do except to find out more about it.

I have a friend who's an artist and he's sometimes taken a view which I don't agree with very well. He'll hold up a flower and say, "Look how beautiful it is," and I'll agree, I think. And he says—"you see, I as an artist can see how beautiful this is, but you as a scientist, oh, take this all apart and it becomes a dull thing." And I think that he's kind of nutty. First of all, the beauty that he sees is available to other people and to me, too, I believe, although I might not be quite as refined aesthetically as he is; but I can appreciate the beauty of a flower. At the same time I see much more about the flower than he sees. I can imagine the cells in there, the complicated actions inside which also have a beauty. I mean it's not just beauty at this dimension of one centimeter, there is also beauty at a smaller dimension, the inner structure. Also the processes, the fact that the colors in the flower evolved in order to attract insects to pollinate it is interesting—it means that insects can see the color. It adds a question: Does this aesthetic sense also exist in the lower forms? Why is it aesthetic? All kinds of interesting questions which shows that a science knowledge only adds to the excitement and mystery and the awe of a flower. It only adds; I don't understand how it subtracts.

ummm, that's the definition of overweight. You may argue that you're not fat, ie the extra weight is muscle and not adipose tissue, but you're still overweight.
    >> Anonymous 05/13/11(Fri)06:34 No.3049234
    >>3049228

I did in contrast to you.

    > The medical establishment has generally acknowledged some shortcomings of BMI.[17] Because the BMI formula depends only upon weight and height, its assumptions about the distribution between lean mass and adipose tissue are not always exact. BMI sometimes overestimates adiposity on those with more lean body mass (e.g., athletes) while greatly under-estimating excess adiposity on those with less lean body mass. A study in June, 2008 by Romero-Corral et al. examined 13,601 subjects from the United States' Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) and found that BMI-defined obesity was present in 21% of men and 31% of women. Using body fat percentages (BF%), however, BF%-defined obesity was found in 50% of men and 62% of women. While BMI-defined obesity showed high specificity (95% of men and 99% of women presenting BMI-defined obesity also presented BF%-defined obesity), BMI showed poor sensitivity (BMI only identified 36% of the men and 49% of the women who presented BF%-defined obesity).[16]

    This is how definitions work.

To be fair BMI is not an all-encompassing metric. If you're a powerlifter it's easy to qualify as obese without being fat. This doesn't necessarily put you at risk of typically fatfag diseases.

    Yes. Yes they are.

    Overweight =/= fat.

I don't know, still sounds strange to me using an untrustable calculation as a reference for when to call someone overweight and when not.

    >> Anonymous 05/13/11(Fri)06:45 No.3049255
Athletes with high muscle mass, such as power lifters, are considered overweight. Overweight is different than fat/obese, but there is increased risk of many cardiovascular diseases/problems (especially myocardial infarction) for being overweight, no matter the cause.

    That kinda worries me.

What is the exact reason? Is it that the heart needs to work a lot more to get all that blood pumped through the body?

    >>3049255

I would expect the danger is reduced because of the amount of exercise that an athlete or powerlifter does. You expect a sedentary fatso would have a weak heart for the opposite reason.
    >> Anonymous 05/13/11(Fri)06:53 No.3049284
Yeah, the heart has to work harder to pump all that blood. I do weight training three days per week before I teach Calc 1, and my doctor gave me a lot of relevant literature. Basically, if you do a lot of weight training, you really should mix in heavy cardio, to strengthen the heart. Hence, I started biking 15km twice per week.

"I can't reach" Summer cried out.

"It's all right, I believe in you. You're the most flexible girl I've ever seen. Here, I'll help you." Amy gently pressed the small of Summer's back, forcing her further into the awkward position.

"You're almost there, Summer... just another inch..."

Finally, they made it. Discomfort melted into passion as Summer's tongue snaked out, lapping the sweet moisture from her own wet pussy.

"That tastes good, doesn't it sweetie?"

    "Mmmhmmm"

    "Let me help you."

Amy cupped Summer's ass in her hands, running her tongue along her trimmed slit as Summer desperately sucked and licked her own clitoris. Their lips and tongues entwined over Summer's moist heat, then they both fell back toward their frantic task to please her. Amy knew Summer risked injury if she stayed in this position for too long, so she built her up to a crescendo quickly.

Summer cried out, muffled by her own slit, as her love juice trickled into her open mouth. Amy leaned in to steal some sweet nectar for herself, then helped Summer back into a flat position and gently rubbed her strained back.

"That was... amazing" she gasped. "But now my back hurts ':3"

"Don't worry sweetheart, my back hurt the first time I did it too. It gets easier with practice."

Amy helped Summer to her feet and they ran to the shower, giggling like schoolgirls.

Amy pulled Summer close to her and roughly kissed her, leaving the inexperienced younger woman breathless under the hot stream of the shower.

"I've never felt this way about a girl before, Amy"

"I've never felt this way about anyone!"

Summer grinned and moved to kiss Amy again, but Amy slipped down out of her reach. Her soft lips left a trail of fire on her throat, then her collarbone, then the top of her breast, lingering a moment on her nipple before a slight lick on the underside.

She slinked further down, kissing Summer's tight abs, dipping into her belly button. Summer tingled with anticipation, but Amy missed her pussy entirely! She pushed Summer back, making her sit down on the shower bench, and kissed her way down her thigh, knee, and calf, until she reached her goal.

She took the bottle of body wash and squeezed out a sudsy handful, then worked it into the flat of Summer's dirty foot. Her thumbs pressed down at the arch, sending an alien shiver up Summer's spine. Summer felt embarrassed seeing Amy submit to her in this way.

"You don't have to do this."

    "I want to."

She carefully rinsed Summer's dainty little foot, running her lanky fingers over the often-injured extremity, filling her heart with compassion and sorrow and the need to please. She lifted the foot up to her face and kissed Summer's big toe. Then she opened her mouth and let it slip in until her lips touched the base, and rolled her tongue over it.

She repeated this strange ritual nine more times, then washed Summer's feet again, freeing them from her sticky saliva. She used her tongue to trace Summer's heels and arches, lovingly tending them.

Stress melted from Summer's body, but a new need welled up in her love box. Her hand wandered down to touch herself, but Amy grabbed her wrist.

    "No. This is mine now."

Summer relented, laying back under the warm jets of water, closing her eyes and waiting for Amy to work her way back up as her body savored every sensation granted by her new lover's talented hands and mouth.

The problem with your post is that a persistent identity is regularly useful when not the OP. For example, if you and the other Anon both reply to this post, you'll have to state which you are for me to understand the context. Assuming that you are like the rest of anonymous, you will almost never remember to do this. This is always destructive to debate, and often destructive to other forms of conversation. You wouldn't have to remember if you had a permanent name and trip. You also wouldn't have to gauge whether a particular thread is likely to turn into a conversation, in which an identity would be useful.

So remember, keeping a persistent identity with a tripcode so you can't be impersonated is always a good idea.

Summer relented, laying back under the warm jets of water, closing her eyes and waiting for Amy to work her way back up as her body savored every sensation of her talented hands and mouth.

Amy pulled Summer forward, so that she was barely sitting on the edge. Summer was as curious as ever but had already learned to trust Amy with her body. Amy kissed a trail right back up, deliberately and frustratingly skipping her needy twat yet again, but Summer had no idea of the kind of satisfaction Amy was about to offer her.

She stood in front of her, slightly hunched, allowing Summer to play with her breasts for a few moments before she pounced. She placed her right leg between Summer's, and with her other leg she stepped over Summer's thigh. She put her hands around Summer to support herself, lowered herself down, and ground their pussies together.

Summer stifled her surprised scream into Amy's shoulder. She raised her hips in response as Amy ground hers. The water had gone cold by now, causing steam to rise from their overheated forms. Amy pressed every square inch of her torso against Summer that she could. She wanted to be with her, she wanted to be inside of her, she wanted to absorb her.

Summer's mind blurred as Amy's dripping snatch and hard nub ground wildly against her. It was all she could do to lean into Amy's body and let her take her, driving her to climax and not letting her down. Summer's orgasms rolled into each other and onto Amy's as they desperately used each other to the point of exhaustion.

Finally, they collapsed onto the shower floor, utterly spent, Amy lying on top of Summer. She lovingly pushed her wet hair out of her face.

"Let's get out of here before we freeze to death ':3"

Alternatively, you could just quit your attention trip and throw away your tripcode. Do you actually have any trouble with identifying who you were debating with? Don't you too differ by reading the text pattern an anon replies with? By chance, would you consider 1 line posts, which make it impossible to guess patterns, as actual contributions to the debate?

I don't know how you feel, but I can't help myself thinking this is a bullshit excuse. You have the priviledge to be recognized by the quality of your post instead of your identify, but instead you clinch to the little shitty status you're having here. Do you really enjoy your stay like that?

I don't care about my status here. No one knows me. No one knows me on either of the boards I post on. All I care about are the advantages I listed. I should also add that there is not a single reason not to use a tripcode. There is no pragmatic disadvantage. Just a few annoying posters who believe that there is something sacred about being anonymous and/or the only possible reason for having a name is attention.

I don't like having to guess patterns or I might just not be very good at it. Maybe you are, but it's a common issue, so obviously not everyone is.

Since you don't have a shred of evidence to suggest that I am doing it for attention, you should concede that point.

Apologies for the hostility... It's just that everything on there comes from contributions from anon... Nothing gets up there unless someone suggests we put it up there.

I'm not adding anything more tonight and I'm about to go to bed... This is a very unsafe place to post your suggestions as not only are they easily overlook but the mods have stated their intention to close this thread and then open a more official sticky... I have no idea when exactly they will do it but should it happen before I get to your contribution, it would be lost.

There is a form on the document that makes it very easy for us to categorize, save and place your contributions.

    processing programming language
    http://wiki.processing.org/w/FAQ

    Why is it called “Processing”?

At their core, computers are processing machines. They modify, move, and combine symbols at a low level to construct higher level representations. Our software allows people to control these actions and representations through writing their own programs. The project also focuses on the “process” of creation rather than end results. The design of the software supports and encourages sketching and the website presents fragments of projects and exposes the concepts behind finished software.

What is the sketchbook? What do you mean by sketches?

We think most “integrated development environments” (Microsoft Visual Studio, Codewarrior, Eclipse, etc.) tend to be overkill for the type of audience we're targeting with Processing. For this reason, we've introduced the 'sketchbook' which is a more lightweight way to organize projects. As trained designers, we'd like the process of coding to be a lot more like sketching. The sketchbook setup, and the idea of just sitting down and writing code (without having to write two pages to set up a graphics context, thread, etc) is a small step towards that goal.

The idea of just writing a short piece of code that runs very easily (via a little run button) is a direct descendant of John Maeda's work in Design By Numbers, and our experiences maintaining it. (Yes, other languages and environments have done this first, but in our case, the concept is drawn from DBN).

Toner transfer has been around for a while.

I heard of someone using paper cut out of magazines as a transfer medium. It was cheap and I could keep trying until I got the results I wanted. It turns out to work really well.

I don't know, there were some people who were complaining about it earlier in the thread, but despite it's reputation amongst highschool teachers and people who still think it's easy to vandalize everything it isn't a very bad resource, and can be used to find other sites and sources about the information you are looking for.

    So I'm pro wikipedia

and I'd also remark that MathPuzzles needs at least some explaination. It's not like it's a site with lots of math puzzles, which are actually solvable for an non- or even undergrade mathematican - it's more a monthly (internet-)review and interesting graph theoretical facts

Keep the links rolling in everyone.
Make sure to use the form however... Seriously.
It's a bitch to have to cross reference the form and the thread to make sure I'm not putting duplicates up.

So will Amazon links to the textbooks suffice?

And I see the only additions to the Economics and Finance section have been links relating to ... Marxian economics. Seriously?

    >>3073637
I don't see why not. I'm no fan of Austrian economics, but their ideas are certainly interesting. Perhaps the more well known book should be in the recommended list.

    Eck.

    Sorry about the rage there.
Let me restate that in a less ranty way.

    This is a community project.
If you notice that a section is lacking or that your favorite resource is missing -- Contribute via the form!
If you have a see something that is a little bit off or was submitted through ignorance (Often mine! I know nothing about economics.) -- Submit your complaint via the form.

I admit, I posted the Marxist stuff. I did it because it was the only submission I got through the form and you all had expressed distress that there was nothing in the economics section.

    >>3074933
And I see you've managed to conflate my criticism of your addition with that of others relating to a different issue, then imagined childish ALLCAPS rants when nothing of the sort has actually been said. It does make for a nice strawman.

And for the record, economics is thought of as a science in the academic community, even if highschool trolls on /sci/ think otherwise. This includes psychology and other social sciences. And no, this isn't because they use fancy math models.

I don't see there being much point in posting download links - they usually don't provide a good outline of what the book covers, nor do they provide readers' impressions of it. Isn't that what good online resources should do? If someone wants to download the book, then they can do so through the sites posted in the Books Sources section.

Dude, I have no problem with economics.
I don't care whether or not it's a science -- It is math so it fits.
We're not, at this moment, doing a text-book recommendation section. If you would like to submit your recommendations via the form, I will happily tag them for discussion and revisitation.

I realize that I get overly ranty right there and I apologize. All I am requesting is that instead of complaining on here about the quality of content present, that you do something about it through the proper channels.

I'm sure that we will add a textbook recommendation section as soon as we get enough textbook recommendations. A purely economics recommendation filled section would just get more flaming from the the HURR ECONOMICS IS NOT SCIENCE crowd.

Alright. I submitted a suggestion form earlier containing non-fiction, non-textbook books and website links.
If anyone has any textbook suggestions, post them ITT: I'd like to see what you guys think are good texts.
    >> Fr 87 05/17/11(Tue)20:33 No.3075230
At the moment I can't post offline book suggestions in the economics section and we do not right now have an offline textbook section.
If you have online resources (Anything!), I (Or another editor) will, with no qualms, post them in the next batch of updates.

The only think that I am taking issue with are the ones who complain that their favorite site isn't present (Well duh, because it hasn't been submitted) or that something that they don't like has been accepted without submitting an appeal.
    >> Fr 87 05/17/11(Tue)20:35 No.3075249
    >>3075227

Sweet. I'm looking at the form right now and I will definitely post those as soon as I decide to do another batch of updates. Thanks man.

    And to everyone else:
Please please please, if you are going to post your textbook suggestions in this thread, do so via the form as well.

Offline textbooks don't really fit on an internet guide though, while a link to a textbook and normal book recommendation page would.

    >> SF 05/17/11(Tue)21:32 No.3075625
    >>3075538
No. Even if such a book "helped" someone, it would be due to some watered down version of knowledge that could be better obtained elsewhere.
    >> Sounds and Crystal Structure: Ausenite and Martensite Anonymous 05/17/11(Tue)21:37 No.3075658
So a while back I did an experiment with Nitinol. Part of the experiment was dropping the ausenite and martensite phase of Nitinol on the floor.
Ausenite made loud ping sound, and martensite made dull thud sounds. Why so???

Ausenite has an orderly body centered cubic structure while martensite is a distorted structure...
so I'm obviously the different sounds are due to structure... but if sound is created when molecules hit each other and return to their original position, why is the sound louder and sharper when the structure is orderly???
