Come the fuck on, OP.
>>
I enjoy work and feel bad when I don't do things/be productive.

I blame my parents.
>>
I don't care about society or whatever, I just want to be productive and doing shit. Science is enjoyable to me, so I'm a scientist. The money allows me to go on dates and travel and live in a nice apartment, but I hardly think about all that, I could have a girlfriend with or without them.

Being a NEET would irritate me all day and I'd feel like I'm wasting my time. You're given a fucking life, might as well use it. And yeah you might as well make money out of the things you enjoy since it makes life easier, and if you can't then clearly you're shit at what you do.
>>
>Fight Club

I'm a NEET already, and no thanks.
>>
>>7507583
I'd like to have that problem, can you give it to me
>>
>>7507610

I wish man. It came from years of waking up early and working with my dad a lot.

We also live on a ranch property so there's a ton of things to do.

Also, I think the nature of the work (cut down trees, move bricks and boulders) made me realize that house chores and such are easy mode.
>>
what happens when a NEET's parents die?
>>
>>7507280 (OP)

>That comic

where does the cool guy neet hero get his food money?
>>
>>7507625

Kill the root, kill the weed.
>>
Where will you get money to live?
>>
>>7507625

I want to know too.

I guess they get the house if it was paid off?

Maybe they move in with other family?

Who knows.
>>
>>7507625
i mean has there ever been someone who was NEET in their 70s while their parents were 90 or something
>>
>>7507625
you'd think that a life of inactivity would kill the NEET faster than the working parents. especially if they have the mental disorders that make being a NEET possible.

but if it does happen, maybe they get simple min wage jobs or food stamps or whatever
>>
>>7507625
My father has worked his whole life and has an enormous amount saved for retirement. He doesn't even expect to live to see retirement because he's obese. I'll collect on that after he dies and I'll take that money, sell the house and his cars, and live off all that until I find something to do.
>>
>>7507667

>TFW Chris-chan's mom will die soon

what will happen to our stalwart hero? ;_;
>>
>>7507550
Yeah, true. It's a standard straw man fallacy.

>>7507280 (OP)
If I understand correct: OP is suggesting that the purpose of a job (to gain money) is largely unnecessary when you don't need most of the things you buy anyway. This is true to an extent, but you still need money for food unless you're skilled at dumpster diving or other types of acquisition, in which case you're mostly trading money for inconvenience.

OPs whole argument seems flawed. He is stating that NEETdom is better than being a "wage slave", even though being a NEET is something which requires wage slaves to support it (parents - and to a larger extent - society.) You can't criticize society whilst still living parasitically off it and those who support it. If everyone became a NEET nobody would be able to be a NEET.

In the end, being a NEET isn't a luxury everyone can afford.
>>
40 hours a week isn't even 2 days of your time. Plus it isn't even that bad if you enjoy what you're doing.

I was NEET for about 8 months out of college and I was so fucking bored. Never again.
>>
>>7507674

That makes me sad dude...

I don't like you.
>>
being a NEET
>experiencing the world through the internet. alone

having a job
>earning money to allow you to experience things first hand

I know which one i'd pick.
>>
>>7507685

>Finish high school
>Neet
>Spend year with no goals or motivation
>Spiral into inconsolable depression
>sleep 14+ hours a day
>Masturbate 5 times a day
>4chan the rest of the day away
>No friends
>No contact with the outside world
>Lose weight, become auschwitz mode

Never again.
>>
I don't get it, is the non wage slave guy employed or not? If he's not employed how does he pay his rent or buy food? You don't have to work a 40 hour week to support yourself, but you do have to work some hours.
>>
>>7507667
>especially if they have the mental disorders that make being a NEET possible.
Are there any besides agoraphobia?
>>
>>7507733

It socialist countries like Britbongistan the government pays people more than the minimum wage in 'welfare'. Even more if you're not british, and even MORE if you're not white.

It's called the 'apology wage'.

Happiness is tied to a feeling of achievement. I do not feel like I can achieve my goals by remaining poor, and as such I would not be happy remaining NEET.

In addition, I am a naturally lazy person, and I use the carrot of money and the stick of disapproval to motivate myself to learn new things.
>>
But I need money to pay my rent, hang out with friends, buy instruments to learn to play them, play video games, go on vacations, take classes I want, food I want.

Sadly I cant do that by sitting on my ass all day or I would! I cant apply for autismbux.

I personally have no want to live with my family and depend on another person forever.

And the only real way to support my independence is to work.
>>
I like work. I get depressed when I have too much time on my hands.

I think when I'm out of college I'll get a job that pays fairly well and volunteer to ensure that I'm never unoccupied. I'll never have to think about what I want to do again.
>>
>>7507756

Well but how is that a solution to anything? Obviously not everyone can live off of benefits because if everyone did there wouldn't be any money to receive in the first place.

So how does the perpetrator of this line of reasoning come to terms with the fact that what he's doing is committing fraud to receive money he doesn't need and has not earned. It's like making a comic with a guy who has a gun and steals stuff being like "lol why work for your money when you can do this wageslave".
>>
>>7507280 (OP)
Can any NEETs here represent the positive aspects of this lifestyle? What kinds of things do NEETs like to do?
>>
>>7507762
I'm a NEET and I wish I was autistic so that way I would have an excuse.
>>
>>7507756

So an African-American would get a large amount of free money?
>>
>>7507602
Same for me except with math instead of science, and no dates, no traveling, no nice apartment. I wouldn't be able to do math if I were a NEET. It's a collaborative effort, and the only way to collaborate with people who aren't cranks is to be employed by some research institute.
>>
>>7507814

Tons

Hence london and other bongistan cities are 90% (really, look it up) muslim and black.
>>
As more people are born and the number of jobs shrink, being NEET will become commonplace.
>>
>>7507814
No, because they would be American and hence ineligible for britbong funding.
>>
>>7507280 (OP)
I'm not going to bother reading your post. I don't even care about the topic. I'm just going to filter you.
>>
>>7507803
When I actually did stuff that was productive outside of the house I would spend damn near every second waiting to go back home. I don't like doing things and I'm not interested in very much of anything. Except movies and going online. The NEET lifestyle provides enough free time for me to spend as much time doing these things as I want without having to worry about meeting deadlines or other responsibilities. For most this is a depressing lifestyle, I've spoken to some that say they would kill themselves if they didn't think there was a way out, but this is all I could really ever see myself doing. I was more stressed and depressed when I had to go out everyday.
>>
Just so you realize, OP, Tyler Durden is a guy who runs a succesful as fuck soap company during the day while creating an interstate social movement at night. So yeah, not a NEET.

Also, in a first world country its easy to work less than full time and still have money to spare after living expenses. I earn 8.20 quid an hour, work 30 hours, and have 4 days off. And that's unskilled, entry level work.

Having a mortgage and debt IS retarded, no argument there. Those two things indeed make you a slave. But it has nothing to do with work itself.

And lastly, without doing something productive, something that earns you money, you are bound to get depressed.
>>
I spent two years after high school as a neet and I don't get the boredom thing. I was rarely bored. I spent a lot of time studying languages (this would help me land my current job years later). If you're a boring shithead having a job won't make you not. You'd just do the same shit you do as a neet except 40 hours of the week you'd spend working.
>>
What does "contributing to society" even mean? What are you doing that someone else couldn't? Do you really think you aren't expendable?
>>
>>7507923
I'm pretty sure it's impossible to be bored on a motorcycle or in a car.
>>
Because I would quickly go bankrupt.
>>
>>7507932

Why are you tying the ideas of contribution and expendability?

I don't see them as being related like that.

The contribution can be big or small. The point is participation and continuation of whatever been decided as society and such.

Regardless of anything, most are expendable. You can be a contributer and still be expendable.
>>

It's not a binary choice of either NEET or wage slave, there are other options. You could start a business, you could be a day trader, you could be a farmer, you could live off the grid, you backpack around the world, etc.

>>7507625
My uncle has been a NEET his entire life. My poor grandma worked two jobs to support him until the day she died. She left him everything, so he will continue to live somewhat comfortably for the rest of his days. He's a known pedophile (touched a couple of three year old girls a while ago), and probably a serial killer. It wouldn't surprise me if I saw him on the news one day.
>>
>>7507280 (OP)

I agree. It's kinda fucked up, but when I have too much time on my hands and my mind starts to wander, I get all nihilistic and depressed. I need problems to solve, work to do, makes me feel alive.
>>
>>7507789
When I was in undergrad uni I had four months off over Christmas each year. I didn't work, and got bored as shit and ended up doing pretty much nothing all day. Now I'm studying full-time with minimal holidays, but I enjoy my evenings and weekends so much more. It's weird.l

Never again. The idleness and nothingness kills you slowly. It's hard to find motivation to learn languages or read philosophy when you have no contrast in your life. Work and play.
>>
>>7508611
what if they go on welfare? well i guess we're all fucked then.

or lets say only those people stay in work
how are these people going to support 20+million other people?

Being a hobo sucks. I've slept outside. Its not fun
>>
>>7508514
what if people were more self sufficient and grew at least some of their own food, got some solar panels, had a fish pond, etc etc.?

When I have a home of my own, I want to get a chicken coop and a little aquaponics thing going (but a bit prettier than a rack of herbs above a sawed-up septic tank -- my ideal is something like a rock-lined koi pond with a slightly raised and sloped garden bed next to it, with the pump hidden behind something)

Though I hear chickens can be assholes, so maybe I'll skip the coop and just have the fish+ plants. Tending to those things doesn't take much time or effort, so I can still have a day job but save some grocery money!

Also maybe doing pornography. Maybe.
>>
>>7507625

they live off their parents super annuation/retirement fund

also if they are autistic or have a disability they get government funds

also welfare

keep in mind that homeless people are most often homeless because they have drug problems. It isn't as hard as one might think to live without a job.
>>
>>7508514

Economist non-NEET here. What you say is true but at the same time unemployment really isn't as bad as the average person thinks. The rich bankers and the owners of Walmart would love to make people think that unemployment is the reason the economy is so shit but it just isn't true.
>>
>>7509162

All of that is work though... that's the entire point, you're going to your job because you can't do any of that and need to pay other people to grow your food and build your house and supply you with electricity for you.

And guess what... those people don't want to do it because they like you, they want to do it so they can afford homes and cars and groceries, just like you. Being self sufficient = work.
>>
>>7509270
My dad pretty much choose to be homeless because he could buy and make more speed that way.
He worked construction almost everyday and slept in a tent.
It was a really good idea. I'd do that, but no more construction thanks to the housing bubble and mexicans.
>>
>>7508270
Lie more on your resumes. Small lies. Keep them straight.
>>
>>7509310

No unemployment is pretty fucking bad because unemployed people don't earn any money so they can't buy anything which recesses the economy.

Gardening is very easy, though. So's keeping fish. Cleaning a fish is a bit of learning I still have to do, though.

>you're going to your job because you can't do any of that and need to pay other people to grow your food and build your house and supply you with electricity for you.
IMO it'd still be best if everyone pitched in a little just for themselves. I'm not saying be 100% self-sufficient and be a subsistence farmer, just plant some tomatoes, dude!

I'm still on the fence about chickens, though. They look cute enough and some sites say they're decent pets if you only get a couple, but /k/ told me they're horrible shitbeasts that take all the time in the world to keep from fucking up your house. IDK.

The aquaponics shit at least wouldn't be much work. Once you've planted, gardening is a snap and an aquaponics system automates the few things you have to do (watering and fertilizing). Then there's just harvesting, which if you only have a few square feet of plants is nothing. Same goes for fish -- you don't have to do much other than feed them, and you can just buy feed at the pet store in a big bag for 5.99 a kilo or whatever. The enterprising person can even look into breeding.

And as a bonus, you can have a kawaii little not-koi pond next to a neat little garden to impress the neighbors! Erect a few solar panels as a project one summer, and get a few bucks off your electricity bill! It's in your interest to do this stuff
>>

>tfw I couldn't take any internships because they were all in the capital, and I could never afford to move there without a big salary

I will because there are other factors (such as unemployment being in double digits here, and me being a hack with barely any experience for my age in the first in the first place), just wanted to know what /r9k/ thinks about the idea in general. I know I'm gonna get exploited but hey, experience, resume, networking. What can you do.

But if you live nearby and it isn't gonna cost you much to do, then doing something is probably better than doing nothing.
