Comparisons are not a good thing to go by. You let yourself be compared to others, as if that's what defines your worth, and you'll be miserable.

Besides, hardship and diversity builds character.
My savings? $000,000,000,004.00. I quit my job where I was making $200.00 weekly, gave a bunch of money to my mother, and began doing volunteer work instead.

Life and happiness is about more than money. Perhaps this is a philosophy adopted by those with little, primarily as a means of helping them deal with their circumstances, but it's true. c':

I worked small jobs during high school and saved most of it. I drive a shit car('92 corolla) that cost me 600$ when I was in HS but gets great gas mileage and never breaks down. I joined the Marines after HS and spent 28 of the past 48 months in Afghanistan, where I was getting paid 2500-3500 per month depending on my rank at the time, and spent almost none of it because there isn't much shit to spend money on there. I was able to save up quite a bit. Now I am out and in school for free on the G.I. Bill and also get paid 1,600/month in BAH(basic allowance for Housing), which isn't great but gets me by each month breaking even pretty much.

I'm still balanced for current income, since I had been planning on taking a few years off to start my own company.

The "lower" risk part is in the Vanguard Wellesley Income Fund; the "moderate" risk tier is in a number of utilities across the US, and the high risk is in a few mezzanine funding companies that have been paying high rates of return.

I haven't balanced out because it appears to have been working decently over the past year or so, and I have trailing stop-loss orders in place in case things really fuck up.

I have a job that pays $16/hr and I work 20 hours a week while I attend college full time. Anything I make goes straight into my bank account. Parents also pay for food and gas since I still live with them. None of the money in my account is my parents'.

I also had a full-time job over the summer while I was 17. Was awful, but dammit give me every penny of the $3,500 I earned at $7.75/hr. Got a tax refund too since I didn't make enough last year. Shit was so cash.

Also, I go to a university where any unused scholarship money is mine to keep. A lot of universities don't do that, but mine does.

The amount of money you have in the bank isn't really a good judge, a better judge is your disposable income. I don't have much in the bank because I was previously in a lot of debt, but I have a job that pays me a reasonable amount now and although technically speaking I have a negative amount of money, my spending power is very high. In another couple of years I won't be in debt and will have savings, but I won't actually be better off in terms of spending power per month.

-35 gorillion dollars in reality thanks to student debt

I juggle between selling kitchen appliances, hacking computers to mine bitcoins, and fucking men in the butt for money. The first gets me a humble commission paycheck that's directly deposited into my checking account every week, the second is a steady flow of loose change, and the third guarantees at least $100 in my pocket a day in case I need it.

It ain't gonna buy me a house in the hills but as long as people enjoying using their kitchens, computers and getting anally penetrated I'm never going full broke.

Bank called me and said if I open a savings account right then and there over the phone they'd put 5 dollars in it. The penny is 4 years interest. I lol everytime they send me a statement. I should probably put real money in it but what's the point when you live check to check.

I make around 170-180 a week. My bills are 300 a month so far but they're going to go up a little next month. I leave myself 70 dollars of "fun money" a week but this week I'll only spend about 50 and then from here on out I don't really see myself spending more than 15 dollars a week out of my fun money and that's just for beer.

Not to mention my boss is really pushing me to go full time instead of part time, so that'll be a little more money but I don't really want to spend 40 hours a week stocking shit or running a register (shit retail job). Right now I work 24 hours a week. After next week not counting my manager and assistant manager I'll have been at the store longer than anyone else and that's not saying much since I started June 1st. Oh well my post is already too long.

If you KNOW that you're not going to need it for ~5 years (or any period of time less than 5 years: 1,2,3,4) then you can shove just over 5k of that money in an ISA where you can make tax free interest off of it.

Alternatively, you can shove up to ~11k into a Stocks and Shares ISA where the banks play the market with your money and try to make you money off of it (but you can potentially lose money as well as make it).
>>

Technically $45, but to have access to that other $20 I'd have to close my account. I've also got $66 in my wallet which would probably still be $85 and last longer if I had remembered to deposit it the day I got it.

>tfw shit at saving

I'd rather reward myself with a material possession or food than just have paper that says I worked laying around. My only goal right now is to save up for a rifle, so once I have enough I'm probably just blow it all on that. After that I might work on moving out. Think I'm gonna wait at least a semester before I college. I'm trying to ration my earnings so I have money to eat out and money to save. I'm much more motivated to go out and socialize if I've got money for food. Milkshakes are definitely a good reason to leave the house.
