Holy shit, sounds almost exactly like my experience with my college's anime club.

Evangelion and Love Hina were literally the ONLY series they had ever seen - all fucking 28 members - that weren't aired on Adult Swim. Berserk was too bloody for them. Ranma was too weird (yes, you read that right). I tried for two years to educate these people, but it never stuck. In addition to those, here are the series they gave up on after one episode or less (or 10 minutes in the case of movies):

The animu club at my uni is actually pretty okay. If anything it's actually a bit too normalfag for my liking only in that there are only a few people who actually like anime to the degree that I do and who I can discuss most shows with.

That said, most of them are actually pretty cool people and I've made some friends out of it. Of course everyone there is a bit off in some way or another (I'd honestly say aside from being a bit quiet in larger groups I'm one of the most balanced people there other than the leaders) but not really in a bad way. It's mostly just kind of a quirky group. We actually had an honest to god autistic neckbeard come in this past semester which was a first to us. We all tried our best to prevent him from latching on to any single person and proceeded to laugh about our honorary neckbeard without him there at some point.

So what Anime on Netflix Instant is worth watching? For the record, I am upset it doesn't have Outlaw Star or Cowboy Bebop

I have an awful feeling that I come across (or came across) as a creepy sperglord just like some of the guys in these stories. It doesn't matter if I've changed myself now as it still happened then; the only thing I can do is kill myself and end the story completely. I hate it; I hate the faux elitism I pick up from the internet (4chan) about anime, I hate the fact I like (legal) girls who look "loli", I hate how I'm so desperate for a friend who knows and/or likes what obscure internet thing I'm going on about. I hate how I don't even watch anime but pay attention to what people say about it on the internet, I hate how any non-negative interaction with a girl makes me feel "love" for her.

That is not my experience. Korean girls like the kind of girly guys that wear shoe lifts, wear gay super tight blazers and have Kpop haircuts.

I used to be into anime a lot during middle school/high school...and when I look back on it I cringe at what I nearly became. I wasn't really one of the "loud & proud" weeaboos but I quoted a lot of bullshit in front of my other nerdy friends.

I still watch some anime from time to time but don't talk about it very much to anybody. It's hard to find people who share my interests in my small town & I've never met any other girls who are into videogames & mechas...

I know that I haven't seen THAT MUCH anime or know that much about all the different mechas, but I genuinely think they're pretty fucking cool.

I tried watching Elfen Lied because I heard it was a classic, but it had a girl with cat ears squeaking all the time who would randomly turn all violent and kill people using invisible hands.
