25 KB Legalization of all scheduled drugs. Anonymous 06/19/10(Sat)14:35:27 No.9595286
    What do you think, /r9k/.

I say yes. Governing morality is rather impetuous. It doesn't even matter how dangerous or safe a drug is; it's all about social stigma. Just about everyone drinks Caffeine. It is a textbook stimulant and is approved by the FDA for consumption. It is physiologically addictive and may have negative effects on long-term memory as well as many other possible health risks.

Take Methamphetamine for example, it is synthesized by combining Methylene and Amphetamine (This only applies to pharmaceutical-grade Meth). The only difference between them is that Meth more readily crosses the Blood-Brain Barrier. It's just that there is this social stigma around Meth and how it's so dangerous. It's uses medically are beyond useful. America has a problem with Obesity. Why not just prescribe small oral doses of Meth to Obese people? It would curb their appetite and give them energy that they could use to exercise. It can be given to truckers to boost performance and focus. It has so many medical uses, but is hindered by the negative stigma behind it.

Personally, I would love to see Oxycodone legalized. It has few health risks from safe, responsible, and moderate use; only constipation, really. The only thing that I currently worry about it is the large amount of Acetaminophen. Also, that is easily solved through legalization. Which reminds me, more deaths are caused by overdose on Acetaminophen than any other drug available in all 1st world countries combined. That doesn't make much sense. It doesn't have any abuse potential, so it must lie with knowledge -- which the public is lacking.

Finally, I will end with the age old "Correlation =/= Causation."

The government doesn't want people getting high or trashed, though they've never gave an actual answer besides "dink of da chillldresn"

You mean "Think of our children". 'Children' meaning the children of the politicians.

Portugal has decriminalized drugs with resounding success. Not sure if it'd work in the US, though.

Drugs like PCP and meth cause people to do crazy shit; they become a danger to society.

Either way it'll never happen in our Christsheeun Nayshun
