Remember that forum you went on a lot as a teenager? Your first internet community experience. It might have been gaming related, but you hung out in the general discussion section and lurked/chatted among the regulars exchanging lulz. As time passed you moved on to other things and forgot about it... until now. Which forum was it for you?

np2k.com/forums was probably the first, back in '99. There was only like five active posters, but the board saw quite a few posts. I should mention that this is a Natalie Postman fansite.

My very first was an email mailing list for sense-o-milla mill jovovich fansite. You send an email to the hosts address and the email is automatically forwarded to everyone else on the list, and you get all of their emails. It works just like a forum but all if the posts are emailed to you. This was around '97.

I used to use the [Adult Swim] forums, got banned for posting a movie spoiler.

Used Bungie.net forums for awhile. Usually just trolled people, making fun of people's rank, and telling them they suck, and whatnot.

Used WoW forums since I started playing, but I didn't troll people. I actually helped out and gave advice as much as possible.

Now I just stick to 4chan and my old guild forums.

I spammed the forum to hell and back to get my post count up (because the higher the post count the higher rank you got) and ended up getting banned. I also met a girl on there and hung out with her once and always tried to get her to date me. she blocked me because I was annoying. i was 15 at the time.

I was extremely active in the online yugioh community, and I stuck around much longer than I should have because I was popular. I played pretty seriously in YVD tournaments/clan battles through either the second or third ban list, and even after losing interest in the game I still stuck around the forums/irc for another two years.

Elder Scrolls official forums. Relatively intelligent but also quite restrictive, interesting but controversial topics (like religion and politics) were banned. Lots of interesting modding went on there.

Total War Center. Like /new/ and /int/ but more pretentious. Full of nationalistic historical dickwaving and all the standard ethnic conflicts (lots of Balkan/Caucasus fuckery) brought online.

WoW official forums. Not as 'intellectual' as either of the above two, but a lot more tolerable and fun, not to mention active.

I only ever went to sites related to video games I was playing, even though I'd hang around in the off-topic sections more than the actual game boards.

    maddoxmania, maddox's fan forums.

None of us actually liked Maddox all that much, but there was a group of maybe 20 really cool people who were regulars. So I hung out there for about three years, sadly most of the good posters slowly started posting less and less until almost all gave up and left. Including me, because it had become really slow and really shit (like Maddox's updates ironically).
This was about 5 years ago now, I go back occassionally for old times' sake and there's only two of those guys still there. How they tolerate posting on such a shit forum I don't know.

Allscifi.com and its parent side Allreaders.com boards.

Started off with roleplay trolling and irritating the fuck out of the members. Then I ended up having a jolly good time posting there constantly. Made my first few online friends there and ended up with an online relationship of sorts for a few months before subsequently suffering an emotional breakdown over both that and other more shameful personal dilemmas.

On the other hand that was also the forum that got me back in school and away from the delinquents I was in a remedial program with. I started realizing everyone on that forum was a fairly well-adjusted member of society aiming for a college degree instead of a warehoused bum, and I had to ask myself, "why the fuck aren't I normal like that?"
That board got me re-adapted into human society, no fucking joke.
