You don't know how likely it is for a sea floor collapse to occur. Even if one didn't cause such a traumatic environmental event what would definitely happen would be the creation of ground fissures, and due to the tremendous pressure per square inch the fissures would spread and eventually cause more breakage, releasing more oil through more places on the sea floor. The oil leak would be impossible physically to stop by that point.

OP, you're not too far off. This was actually Russia's solution, only less crude. THey've actually done it before.

Drill a few hundred feet away from the pipes location, into teh oil well, drop a small few kiloton nuclear warhead and incinerate the entire oil supply while collapsing the well. The entire oil supply will be destroyed but it will solve the leakage problem.

Russia has been suggesting this actually. They said they had a similar problem (somehow we didnt know about it) and they dropped a nuke on it (somehow we didnt know about that either) and it fixed it.

It would either:
A. Collapse the 'pipe' in on itself, and seal it off completely, thus solving the current problem.

or

B. Just break the pipe up, and considering the top portion of the pipe is just going through sand (it doesn't hit truly solid soil until fairly deep under the surface) the oil (which is blowing out at extreme pressure) would continue to flow upwards, pushing its way through the sand in many, many spots, and then be impossible to 'shut off'

That's why they're afraid to try it.

Russia has actually used nukes to stop oil leaks on 5 separate occasions. It has worked 4 out of 5 times.

There are cavities beneath the ocean floor, thats one problem. There is a ridiculous amount of pressure a mile deep underwater. Any significant disturbance to the geological structure of the seafloor would cause oil leakage that can not be contained by any method at all.
Best thing to do would be to...drill two relief wells and wait. Patience, its always the solution.

Or you can just ban this shit tier method of drilling and it not happen in the first place...or even regulate these companies with serious intentions of efficiency and safety.
