So how long does it take to actually become a citizen? I've heard everything from "years" to "it's easy, just pay some money and take a test", etc...ever since this whole shitstorm with Arizona, I don't know who to believe.

I don't think so, because that image is actually what I used in a discussion with some other people about immigration. I said I've heard that it takes, at minimum, years - and they said "lol no". So ironically, that image is only the beginning of this thread.

Legal immigrant here (permanent resident). I've been through the process. That image is 100% accurate. I got in on a IR1 (immediate relative) visa so the whole thing was fairly painless (that and I'm white, I've heard horror stories of doing the exact same thing I did at consulates in "brown" countries.)
    >> Anonymous 05/09/10(Sun)00:22:56 No.8827145
waiting times vary with the speed and efficiency of your local offices.

Also, don't mistake citizenship with greencard.

The times listed there are fairly accurate.

TL/DR: Marry a US Citizen OR, Rich with a good lawyer. Ez mode.

Everyone else: Like the DMV line from hell...

Yeah the service center you will be using is determined by where you live and of course how busy they are is directly related to how much of an immigrant flow they get. If you live in New England, shit's real fast (I just got my replacement green card in about a month). If you live in some place like CA of FL... good luck to ya.
    >> Anonymous 05/09/10(Sun)00:25:15 No.8827186
If this image is accurate, then why do the people who are against the arizona law usually only cite "PROFILING!" as their biggest issue, and not the long wait times to become a citizen?

    >> Anonymous 05/09/10(Sun)00:30:57 No.8827277
    >>8827186

The two issues are really pretty much unrelated. There IS NO path to citizenship or even permanent residency for 99% of the border jumpers because they are unskilled.

I assume for a small minority they might have relatives in the US, for them there's at least a theoretical path through the system, but it's a long ass fucking wait (cfr >>8827040).

If you are an educated, professional from Mexico, there's no hassle at all in working in the US as long as you have a job waiting. NAFTA took care of that class of mexicans, they just do some paperwork at the border and presto, they are golden.
    >> Anonymous 05/09/10(Sun)00:31:32 No.8827285
    >>8827186

because if you are already a citizen, then the wait time doesn't matter to you.

Also, the law's effect on wait times is going to be a bit hard to predict.

On the other hand, a single stormfront sympathetic officer can troll a hell of a lot of legal US citizens and greencard holders with this new law.
    >> Anonymous 05/09/10(Sun)00:35:54 No.8827353
    >>8827285

Ironically I can prove I'm here legally since I am required to carry my greencard on me, and do. A US citizen would have a tougher time unless they start carrying a birth certificate or passport on them.
    >> Anonymous 05/09/10(Sun)00:40:44 No.8827437
    >>8827353
Lolerific. The greencard holders have it easer than citizens with this law.

But the scenario I'm thinking about, is when said stormfag cop "loses" your greencard during inspection, and puts you on the fast track to deportation.

    >>8827437
*shrug* the card is just a card. The status remains with or without it. Said thug wouldn't have access to change that status in the UCSIS database. At the very worst I'd be deported, head for the nearest US embassy, get a stamp in my passport and head back. I'd then proceed to win the litigation lottery against whatever agency the thug works for.

    >> Anonymous 05/09/10(Sun)00:48:22 No.8827558
Took me about 10 years to get citizenship & 4 years for a greencard.

I hear it also depends on how valuable you are in terms of overall usefulness or if you have connections.
    >> Anonymous 05/09/10(Sun)00:51:46 No.8827603
It takes years. The US gets a shitload of new immigrants each year, naturally they don't take all of them. As a result the system is overflowing with literally hundreds of thousands of applications, and they can only take so many each year.

If you have a college degree or some sort of useful skill then it's a lot easier. If you don't then it's a pain in the ass.
    >> Anonymous 05/09/10(Sun)00:53:36 No.8827633
    Stupidass illegals.

    "We are Arizona!"

No, you're not. Arizona is not a state of mind, it's a state in the United States, which is a government regulated by laws. Living here illegally is against the fucking law.

    >The US gets a shitload of new immigrants each year, naturally they don't take all of them.

Where do you idiots get these dumb ass ideas? You don't just walk in and say "hey I'd like to become a citizen, so wassup??"
    FFFFUUUU

Basically if you have a REASON (family relationship, a needed skill, LOTS of $$$) you can APPLY. Then you are either accepted and hop a plane or are denied. Until then don't even think about setting foor on US soil unless on a visitor visa. Of course some people do it the WRONG way and overstay a non-immigration visa and then adjust status. This can be done, but it's not how it's supposed to work. And if you can get in on a visa waiver or non-immigration visa, you are not very likely to be a $2/hr mexican seasonal worker.

no Mexican nationals are not Americans... But Hispanic Americans who look like Mexican nationals are Americans...and those Americans rights are being infringed upon when they are asked to produce paperwork proving they are a citizen... That us something you don't have to worry about ever you fucking gringo asshole cocksmoker

If you love America as much as us, then you would gladly let your rights be BARELY infringed upon to stop illegal immigrants from overpopulating this fine nation, like any good citizen would. You do love America, don't you?
    >> Anonymous 05/09/10(Sun)01:24:05 No.8828080

Yeah, people get too butthurt about stuff.
So what you got stopped, nothing happens, and they let you go once they find out you're a US citizen.

It's like driving the same make, model, and color car as one that was reported stolen. YOU didn't steal your car, but cops will run the plates everytime they see you, and they will approach your car and inspect it if they see it parked suspiciously. Nothing will happen to you in either situation and it's just the price we pay for the freedom and protection that is offered here.

If you get pulled over and you get butthurt because you were pulled over for looking mexican and you got arrested forhaving open containers all over the place, driving drunk, or doing any thing else illegal; realize, you were still breaking the law, and their is no sense in getting butthurt about it when you know full well you'll get pulled over.

That's like playing loud music in an apartment after 12 while making crack cocaine in the kitchen. They may only show up for the noise complaint, but if you're doing illegal shit that's your fault.

Be a man, and responsible for your actions, don't blame others and don't blame "dem gov'ment" for all of your problems.
