Why the hell are my full screen videos freezing? Works fine in the little window in my browser, but as soon as I blow it up to full screen, it works for like, fifteen seconds and then freezes. What do?

When ever I play shooter games like AVA my computer freezes up after a couple of minutes, but when I play games like MMOs my computer won't freeze at all. I am confuse.
    >> Anonymous 05/08/10(Sat)14:34:58 No.8819247
    ip renew doesn't work

random 404s across multiple sites and media something to do with the internet cache and or problem with Firefox, running ccleaner and flushing DNS fixes the problem sometimes.

a lot of thumbnails fail to load on 4chan, reload image option does have any effect.

The shooter may be pushing your computer harder than an MMO.

Update Windows, update your video card drivers, make sure your computer's heatsinks aren't choked with dust. Let me know if it improves it. If not we'll need to try something else.

I keep all of my drivers up to date along with windows updates. I am on a laptop for this and the computer doesn't get very hot when it freezes playing games and usually gets much hotter when I play an MMO for a while.

Interesting problem. This is just a shot in the dark - run MalwareBytes and update your network card to the latest from your manufacturer's website or from Intel/Broadcom. Or go start > run (XP/Vista) start > type in devmgmt.msc and hit enter. Tell me the network card name.

Can you give me a list of the shooters and MMO's? Maybe the ones that crash are using the same graphics engine. Honestly I'm still trying to think of why...

I was planning on building my own computer this summer after a I graduate college, but it turns out I am being forced to buy a Dell since I get some discount through a family member (CEO and President of some company that works closely with Dell/used to work for Dell).
Anyway is there anyway I can still get the components I want for the same amount of money?
Is it worth it to get a freaking Dell?
Also I don't know how much of a discount we're talking about here.

For shooter I am playing Exteel which is not a graphic heavy game. Also playing AVA which is a more graphically oriented game.
    MMO would be Mega Ten

It totally depends on how high end the machine is. There is no/almost no way to beat Dell/HP at low end machines. However, it is quite easy to beat them at around....lets say $700+.

What model are you looking at.

It just stops. The sound keeps going, and when I escape out of it the video in my browser is in synch with the sound. I think it might have something to do with how my cursor stays an internet hand instead of turning back into a pointer like it use to do when I switched to full screen.

I've tried upgrading my Vista machine to Windows 7 but every time I get the following error:

"Windows cannot copy files required for installation. The files may be corrupt of missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code 0x80080241."

I have tried installing from two different sources (CD and USB key), and my system meets the requirements for Windows 7. I am also trying to do a clean install. No idea what to do.

I want something capable of some moderate PC gaming, and I was looking at some of their Studio XPS desktops.

Basically I want something that will last around 6 years (when I finish grad school) with minimal to no hardware updating.
    Should I go lower end?

You poor bastard. You have an upgrade version of 7 I'll bet. It says so on the dvd case, if it is, then microsoft intended for you to pop that into you dvd drive while windows was already running. You can only do install an upgrade version on top of another, older, full version, when you formatted your drive, you erased whatever version of windows you just had and now your upgrade version can' find it and wont install. Next time, get an OEM version from newegg.

Ah, when you said clean install, I thought that you had already erased vista, apologies. I have had far to much fun with windows installs. I highly suggest you take back your upgrade version, if it is in fact, an upgrade version, and get a full-licence or OEM version. That being said, if you have the disks for the Vista, do a clean install of that, or at least run a repair, and try again. Are you booting from disk or from the dvd-rom?

I downloaded the version I have through MSDN Academic Alliance (I attend one of the participating schools), and I'm pretty sure its the full version. ALl it says is: Windows 7 Professional (x64) - DVD (English).

I downloaded the the ISO file from the site, and burned it to a DVD and tried upgrading that way, and I also downloaded the Windows 7USB/DVD Download Tool to try and upgrade through my usb key.

I have also re-installed Vista and then tried to upgrade to 7 right after, but the same error message comes up.

After six years, a 'moderate' gaming rig will be 'four-years too old'. Wait for a big sale on newegg, then get the best parts you can afford, and try to build it your self. Best way to save money in PC gaming.

Are you sure you're not just overestimating technological advance?

Developers want to cater to the most amount of customers, and most customers aren't going to have the high-end gaming computers.

Also I'm not wanting to play Crysis or whatever.

Maybe Oblivion or Fallout 3. Right now I have a 6+ year old (not even sure) hand me down laptop that I've been using for the past four years.
The newest game that I can play on it is Morrowind, if that gives you a benchmark of it's graphic power.

Anyway I don't know. I just thought it would be a really cool experience to build my own, you know?
    >> Anonymous 05/08/10(Sat)15:48:54 No.8820034
What should my next upgrade be? I'm not a gamer or 3D renderer.

    3.3GHz Phenom 945 quad
    Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P
    GF 8600 video card
    2GB RAM
    30GB SSD for Windows XP
    500GB data
    500GB backup
    430W Antec PS
    CM Stacker 830 Evo case
    DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, Zip, floppy

Thinking more RAM, a bigger SSD, and Windows 7 to start with.
