TONIGHT, ON THE AMERICAN NEWS CHANNELS

-DUD BOMB DOESN'T KILL ANYONE IN NYC
-OIL SLICK KILLS A FEW FISH, BUT NO OTHER INJURIES
-GAY PEOPLE SHOULDN'T GO TO PROM
-IRON MAN 2 SELLS LOTS OF TICKETS
    -MORE TALK ABOUT OIL SLICK

    NOT ON THE AMERICAN BROADCASTS
-Major town in the United States is almost completely covered by water in a flash flood, killing dozens of people and causing billions of dollars worth of damage in the worst non-hurricane event in modern times.

wait....wat? How did New Orleans get STUPID amounts of news coverage after Katrina but yet there are vast amounts of people that still don't know about Nashville?

Hell yeah bro, I actually live in a suburb very close to Nashville, and I can't fucking stand country music.

However, I'm concerned that there might be some sort of a "revival" of country music in the future where it becomes popular simply because everyone pities Nashville for getting drowned on. I hope that day never comes bro.

Good point, you asked. American news media does have something similar to Attention Deficit Disorder, I call it Event Attention Deficit Disorder. American news media is more focused on the drama of the event, not the issue or the overall picture. As soon as the drama ends, they go to the next drama filled event. It's cheap and it's profitable.
    >> Anonymous 05/06/10(Thu)23:02:59 No.8794379
Nearly 2000 people died from Katrina and there was $90 billion worth of damage.

It got more news coverage because it was a way bigger disaster.

You must be retarded. The oil situation is pretty serious and is deserving of some coverage. Not only does that have a major ecological impact, but the economic damage could be another nail in the coffin for your damn country. I'm not even from the States and I realize it's a pretty big deal.

yea, i'm about 15 miles away from nashville and i'm really annoyed by how ppl keep bitching about how much media coverage it's NOT getting.

I mean yea, it's bad and all, but it's not as bad as Katrina. People are just pissed it's noI t getting that kinda coverage. I got to swim and canoe in the flood water and get drunk with friends and it was pretty fun. long story short, ppl quit bitching about not getting meida coverage. i'm just hoping the titans stadium is unflooded by football season.

Wow I can't believe there are so many Nashville/Franklin fags on here. My guess is that most are underage...

Pic is from school playground before it got bad. 10 feet deep in the pic. The second day, the whole road was under water.

    Tennessean here.

When you decide to move your state capitol into a basin, you should plan for a scenario such as this.

I do not pity the capitol's lack of disaster prevention plans.

nahh it really didn't. at mtsu it flooded the bell street parking lot and field next to it, everybody was rafting and canoing and getting drunk and stuff. it was fun. but it sucked for everybody else haha. nashville and franklin got it the worst.

'Cause Katrina was a hurricane, all that happened in Nashville was a flash flood/tornado touchdowns.
    >> Anonymous 05/06/10(Thu)23:27:56 No.8794773
    humm...
    - its nashville
    - less than 50 people have died (1800 in katrina)
    - but mostly cause its nashville

but it would help if there was massive government failures of organization to blame, rather than just nature.

Yeah, nobody cared until they could blame Bush for everything. It's not that the Army Corps of Engineers had been corrupt and incompetent for the past 40 fucking years, it was all "Heckuva job, Brownie" and "George Bush doesn't care about black people."
    >> Anonymous 05/06/10(Thu)23:34:01 No.8794868
In other news, bad things happen in the south and elites in the northeast and west coast shrug.

You know, the oil spill took a while to be big news, and even after it became big news (due to being a huge, rare, and obvious fuckup), the media mostly has been saying "oh, it sucks, but we need the oil".

If EITHER of these things - massive, deadly flooding or a major oil spill - had happened in the Northeast or West Coast, the media would be having a major hissy fit. HUGE hissy fit.

Face it, outside of the south nobody cares about people in the south. Kanye West was wrong, it wasn't because they were black, it was because they were in the south.

Does this mean some whitebread rock musician gets to appear on television and say "Barack Obama doesn't care about white people"?
