kidding. This society is going down the shitter in so many ways I
sometimes have very little hope. Most young people are hedonistic,
opportunistic and unambitious, and have no values whatsoever. They have
no moral principles other than "whatever works", thus the overwhelming
socialist tendencies. Few, though, really understand how this world
works; what makes humans prosper and societies flourish. They are
brought up to believe that as long as we have a huge, monopolistic,
violent institution watching every step we make, that society will
continue to progress, that we will continue to be able to invent things,
improve technology, discover more of the world.. What they fail to
realize is that this very institution, government, is today the greatest
threat to our future. Everything it does impedes our prosperity. Every
regulation, every tax, every tariff, every program, brings us one step
further away from a more prosperous future. Yet young people believe
that if we just put the right people in the state, if we just tinker
with the right regulations, we will make everyone happy. If we just stop
the "evil capitalist pigs", force the ignorant masses to use
government-approved lightbulbs, invent new rules for what people can do
with their own hard-earned money, install CCTV on every street corner,
outlaw everything the majority doesn't like.
The reality, though,
is that economically, the world is about to have the coldest shower in a
long, loooong time. First, the bad businesses failed. Then, the bad
banks failed. Now, the bad states are failing (Greece, Portugal) and
they're going to take a good number of good states with them. And what
almost no one understands, is that every single failure is because of
the very rules and regulations that the government designed to prevent
it. |
