So /r9k/ I just had a short conversation with my father , he just recieved his postal vote for the UK election, and asked me which way I was voting, said I was undecided. He tells me he is voting labour, then tells me, "there all the same" out for what they can get, too many bloody polish here, cant let torries in, they will cut everything and make us working class jobless.I get the feeling this is a bunch of statments alot of people I know express, but I find it based on little evidence of these things happening to them, they just read it in a newspaper, dont read or watch anything in depth to do with politics or policies and just generally synical. i.e. my father doesnt know a single polish person and is middle class income wise, plus he works in the private sector. How can people expect to complain about how the goverment is shit, but at the same time, when they have a chance to change it, they dont have interest or bother to find out anything, it makes me fucking rage at the waste, no wonder so many in politics hate "normal" people, they want the world, but dont want to understand the details of it.Tl;dr- Ignorance in politics, hurr durr Labour all my life now vote lib dem cause i dont like gordan brown, hurr durr dont vote conservative, they will hurt the poor, hurr durr lib dems will never get in, why vote for them.
Lemme guess OP. your dad also votes for prime minister and doesnt know who his local mp/candidates are ?yeah thought so, hes a typical dumbfuck joe average
Politics are boring. There is nothing I can do to change things. Anyone who can get themselves elected at the national level is bought and paid for by special interests anyway and will vote as the party tells him, not by any set of ideals.
It just the way the world works.
Your dad experienced Thatcherism first hand so his worry is very real.
the general populace doesnt really give a fuck who wins, they just see it as a new X factor style vote now, as opposed to the old way where everyone voted the way there parents did, just becasue thats how it was. They dont care about policys, untill shit hits the fan, then there up in arms, people are idiots, rule of life.
OP, he, you and I are Britishwe have a natural disposition to moan even when there is no need to...But I agree to an extent, some people are so ignorant of politics that they end up voting for someone they ultimately may not of wanted if informed. Democracy is wasted on some people..
that picture is the new captain picard !
>>8668465>Democracy is wasted on some people.Fucking this !People went to war to died for democracy, and for what ? about 20% of the people to vote with thier heads, and 80% to waste thier vote by not voting or voting blindlyfucking ragex10
Conservatism is the party that literally only exists to keep the poor poor, and to keep the rich rich. It is the party of the elite, and they are the ones that want to stay in power. If you are lower or middle class, you will feel generally negative results from voting conservative. It's the way conservatism works in every fucking country.
hurr durr I have the right to vote i can vote for whoever has the most memorable jingos. open democracy is a sad fucjing joke
OP here, I tried to continue my talk with my dad, see if he would watch the debate or read up on the policies to make a informed decision, he started his usual stuff about it being pointless since its the same, and then got angry thinking about it all.I guess politics is too complicated for some people to not just rule by there emotions. It really makes me despair for us all, I'd rather he wanted to vote BNP and really belived in the ideals, than just a meh vote for labour since hes always done so, even though he dislikes them.
>>8668510implying the conservatives in the UK are even right wing whatsoever.there middle ground politics, like labour. only difference is ideaology of policies that will never be brought about, just talked about.
There should be a compency test to determine who can vote, stop complete morons from hurting the country, democracy is a system that only works as an idea, in practise real people dont use thier brains.
Who knew? Most people in most countries are fucking ignorant as shit about politics. It's the same reason most people in most countries are religious. Most people in most countries are fucking brainwashed and/or stupid.
i remember my dad telling me he voted for lib dems in europe electioni was pleasantly impressed, my parents are pritty right wingmy mum's a ukip voter which bring up other questions....
In Sweden the main parties are like PC and Mac, both are becoming more like the other until they essentially become the same. I'm still gonna try and make an informed decision for my first election but they really are all the same shit. You shouldn't be too surprised that most people thinks it doesn't really matter.
>>8668578 UK political centre is right-centre, governments are always right-of-centre though, in their nature theyre gonna be conservative if they have control of the countryin this country the will of the people is very much matched to the westminster, people dont really think outside the box too much, and the uk is a more traditionalised and intitutionalised country than most
>>8668597Not op here but your right, my father calls himself a catholic, but he says he doesnt belive in god, and hasnt been in a church since he was 14, but he aggressivly maintains hes a catholic, he was born one and cant ever not be one....dumbness is a medical illness
lol @ people saying UK is democratic, its a fucking monarchy, did you all forget that , if the queen wanted, she could just dismiss all MPs and take rule of everything, freedoms a myth, just wait till she dies, the king shall rein !
I'm ignorant about politics as well, but I really have no interests, morals or belief systems, so I'm not sure that I'd know which way to vote even if I did understand the platform of each party.
>>8668687Can you even point to the UK on a map? The Monarch has no real power.
People who dont know about politics and policies shouldnt vote, they only say "theres no such thing as a wasted vote" because they think you might blindly waste your vote on them, leave it to the people with intelligence to vote, then you wont feel shit when things go bad because of your bad decision.
>>8668725you get onto the sticky problem of what actually IS voting intelligently, its quite subjectivesome people do just vote on stupid prejudices though, usually the way theyre parents voted without question
>>8668807a simple test on the policies of the main parties would at least show the person has SOME knoledge of what there voting for.
Ah, Britain. Where rightly calling someone a bigot... makes you a bigot.
Hating bigots is a kind of bigotryOH THE IRONY INDEED
>>8668842The point is that he was insulting his core voters and was being two-faced.
I have a friend like your dad OP, shes voting BNP because she thinks theres too many polish people here, but when asked if shes met one, nope, has she ever been turned down or lost a job because of one, nope, does she know anything about BNP beyond they dont like immigrants, nope.I tried to explain to her, that BNP would stop immigration, but in-europe immigration cant be stopped, so it wouldnt effect poland and the like, she just looked confused and said, "lets not talk about politics, its too confusing". Its deciding your fucking future and she doesnt want to talk about it.Fucking ignorant cunts in this country, bring on the new state of the internets.
>>8668354That's why a voting system where misinformed people with substandard IQs holding the majority of the voting power isn't a great system.
>>8668687I wish they fucking would, at least then we'd get to put their head on a spike if they fuck us over too badly.
>>8668909its no differnt to everyone being stuck in thier low IQ constitunacys votes.
I can sum this up by some dancer on "This Week" the other night who said "people who vote on policy are like you guys who do politics for a job" and he said he is voting for nick cleg because he looked comfterable on the TV debates and he belived he was genuine. /facepalm
what kind of radio studio is tht fucking green light and ish
Youre right, the UK doesnt have an immigration problem. People are just racist and politicians simply pander to people. This is why Gordon Brown got in trouble for calling a bigot a bigot. He needs her vote and the votes of those that sympathise with her, regardless of the poisonous bullshit that she believes.
>too many bloody polish here
>>8668957>>DancerReally meant>>Annoying fag with a lisp.
>>8669032Louis Spence? I bet it was fucking Louis Spence. I hate that fucker.
>>8669005People belive things based on things they hear from other people, so basicly gosip based on no facts.Immigration is a very low level problem in the UK, there needs to be stricter monitoring overall, but in reality its not a big issue, there only calling it a big issue now because they realise how many people have views based on non-facts, and people dont like being told there wrong, even though they are.BNP has gained itself alot of momentum from that, there now basicly a recognised party, where as 2 years ago, they werent even mentioned in passing, they have ridden the train of public ignorance, we need some MPs with balls to tell the public there being idiots.
>>8669044well its only really on tv because hes annoying
>>8669044aye thats it, googled the name, its him, he summed up for me everything wrong with most voters.dumb cunt, i couldnt rage any harder if I tried. UK election is the biggest fucking troll ever.
>>8669056No, we need MPs with balls who will do what the people they represent want and not just vote how their whip told them to.
>>8669069He probably won't even voteI don't understand why they get those idiots on This Week though. They've had N-Dubz and Lady Sovereign on there too.
>>8669069>UK election. It's everywhere in the western world pal, not just here.
Amerifag here, what I'm going to tell you is the sad truth. Most political participation is passive rather than active. The most active political participation in Britain and America is by voting. Then the politicians expect them to move out of the way and don't complain directly to them. Another reason is that most people don't do any research of the mainstream political parties. That's why out of ignorance they vote for the same parties.
>>8669075This thread proves the people dont know what they want, because the majority are too idiotic, and its always the idiots who are loud and make thier voices heard. I agree with the guy earlier who said we need a test to determine if people have sence enough to vote.
>>8669075>the people they represent wantI hate the whip system, but do you realise what this would achieve? British people are stupid.
anyone else voting for brown just because he called that old bitch a bigot?i thought it was fucking hilarious. go labour
>>8669191Fuck yeah. GB is the man when hes not being a PR puppet, when he speaks his mind, he speaks the truth.
>>8669191I'm voting lib dem because I want a hung parliament and I hate my MP, but if I was in kirkcaldy I would vote so hard for brown. Despite his whiplash apology its nice to know he isn't a fucking robot.
Yeah, it makes me rage when I see people talking about what do to do about complex social or economic problems and they think they have a good grasp on the subject from the things they read in the media and their poorly informed opinion. These things need an experts opinion ffs.
>>8669075This. That's what democracy is. You do what the majority want, regardless of whether or not that's the right thing. It's about fairness.
the daft bitch lived in Rochdale, its almost a certainty that shes a bigot
>>8669250The People thoughout history have been shown to make fucktarded decisions, thats why we have goverments, fairness is a nice idea, but in reality, people just fuck themself then ask why you didnt stop them.
>>8669148People get the governments they deserve, if the British people made fucktarded decisions then so be it.
