I've sometimes idly wondered about living in brazil. It's an incredibly arbitrary and unrealistic idea, but it sounds like it could be kind of cool. What's Brazil like? How hard would it be for a professional with a computer-related technical background from North America to immigrate there? Tell me about Brazil.
    >> Anonymous 04/21/10(Wed)20:22:43 No.8504039

Also, most people here don't even speak english, so you better know how to speak spanish, at least.

Well yeah obviously the language thing, I've got the opportunities right now that I could learn Portuguese before going (not that I'd go, this is just daydreaming).

What exactly about it causes you to say it sucks though? The poverty springs to mind, true, but there's got to be some cultural things going on there you couldn't experience otherwise.
    >> Anonymous 04/21/10(Wed)20:26:48 No.8504107
    don't do it.

there's no one here with an IQ over 120 that actually likes Brazil.

    here.

just to let you know: Brazil's average IQ is 87.

Also, in Brazil technology fields suck.

in fact, only last year the production os PS 2s was allowed in here (very vew of us actually have PS3/360's, and xlive doesn't work here, neither does itunes).

you'd get paid around 3-5k in our currency, and that's because you're from NA.

and yeah, you'd have to learn english, I'd say maybe 1% of us speak decent english.

Well, our culture is based on poverty. I'm sure you have watched Elite Squad.
There are also other bad things. Weather is one of them. But of course, it's a relatively big country so you get some diversity on that. And, related to this size matter as well, you would be able to choose many places to come and visit. What exactly are your wishes?

OOOH and I must tell you one good thing. As a "gringo" you would probably get lots of sluts all over you. Again, it's our culture.

I was just interested in the idea of living in a different country with a fundamentally different view and living that life. I'd integrate poorly (and probably die, being comparatively weak to the natives) in Africa or Asia, but South America is covered in settler nations so one more white guy with an accent to his portueguese/spanish wouldn't be a big deal.

There's not really as much work to be done in North America or Europe, things are alright. Being patriotic to a struggling nation is kind of a neat dream because you can imagine working to make it better.

well, to get good weather, you'd have to go live up the hills, in the middle of fucking nowhere.

I live in southernmost Brazil, and it gets easily 30-40 C in here (like 80-110 F I think)

closest place that has actually good weather is in Gramado, it's up some mountains, tourist city, not sure if there's anywhere there where you could work with computer related stuff.

Oh dear, dear God. OP seriously, don't listen to the self-loathing brazilfags. They have no inkling of nationhood or love for their own country. Please discredit their opinion. It is a nice country, very pretty. You would easily attain a great job due to being foreign and having a technical background which is lacking in the internal market. I think, however, you should seek the landlocked cities, specially Sao Paulo. Odds are you'll receive better treatment there. But if you want to lead a more tourist-like lifestyle and can tolerate the heat, just pick any of the seaside ones. The people will be friendly and accommodating as a general rule and it won't cost you much considering comparative costs of living. All in all it's a nice experience, if it doesn't work you can just go back home.

nope, whoever says "everyone wants to live brazil" is obviously middle class or higher (that's bellow 40% of our population)

thing is: brazilianfags are amongst the most "settled" people in the world. meaning as long as poorfags (people living with less than 1k a month) get to watch soccer and party during carnaval, they will just keep working 16 hours a day for shitty money. I mean, they bitch about it, that's for sure, but they do nothing to change it. they're fucking lazy, and the government tricks everyone with gay entertainment like soap operas or fucking soccer.

Okay, I'm half Brasilian, and I live in Texas. Here the deal with Brasil - I think it is an amazingly awesome place to VISIT, say for maybe a couple of months, but I would not live there. And the only reason I'm saying it's a good place to visit is because my family over there is rich, most of them are successful lawyers, one of my uncles worked for the government doing some weird computer thing, and two of my cousins married millionaires.
In other words, I love visiting because they have money. If you're a foreigner and you don't know anyone there, or the language, or the culture, or how to get around, you probably should not go. Yeah, >>8504173 is right, you'll have hoes clawing at you for your balls, but you'll definitely get some kind of sticky hot painful disease from them.
And do. NOT. GO. To Sao Paulo. Unless you have a good reason. I have a lot of family down there and it is INCREDIBLY CONGESTED. You have NO IDEA what congestion is until you see Sao Paulo.

Nope, Brazilian. Born and raised. However, I have moved around enough to know my own country. I still recommend it, specially because I don't think OP would consider moving to a country that he knows is a third world one in order to access the internet. Also, why would minimum wage affect the OP? He clearly intends on working with computers. Considering the percentage of the population that can afford a computer and the internet, we spend an extremely considerable amount of time online (we did not earn our fame for nothing), so there should be plenty of work for the OP. Also, while media does suffer a certain lag, it also suffers in every country (and that includes European ones in the case of American media and vice-versa). Also, you are severely misinformed about our piracy skills. Brazil is one of the most potent media pirates in the world. There are plenty of Brazilian websites to download all you might ever want to. You should be very well aware of how numerous our informal third sector is. My recommendations stands.

Brazilian here giving my two cents:

    Pros:

    Climate.
    Food is cheap.
You can party hard without worrying about cops or whatever.
Nice people. Really. Before I visited various contries in Europe I thought this was bullshit, but brazilians are really nice in general.

    Cons:

    Expensive electronics.
    Thievery depending where you live.
Bad public education, bad public transport towns, bad public healthcare system, etc.

If you're poor you're pretty much fucked. If you're rich, Brazil can be a nice place for you.

Personally, I am from what is considered middle upper class in Brazil, with my parents making more than 3,5 thousand dollars every month, so my life is pretty sweet.
