The club idea is interesting but you have to consider the legal implications. If you had anonymity while you were there, you could commit crimes and avoid being busted. Hell, you could even have other criminals work with you (swapping masks, etc) and trick them that way.

HOWEVER, you might be able to avoid that by having your identity recorded somewhere, maybe before entering the club, and when leaving the club, etc...I dunno.

Religion and politics is just as boring and even more pointless. Talking about it won't change SHIT and is just likely to start arguments.

Mostly because of the tremendous effort that then must be expended keeping people calm or in control of themselves. It is better, instead, to leak out *hints* of what you'd prefer. Leaving little bread crumb trails for people to follow back to the idea of having more complex, genuine, deep or intellectual conversations.

Dont shy away from them, or keep your abilities secret, but dont use your words or behavior like a hammer either. Learn the secret handshakes and words that get peoples attentions - then they'll come out from the woodwork on their own. And you can have fun conversations. It will still be frustrating - often when the fish dont seem to be biting. But, look for your own bait, as you bait the line for others. Someone else might be doing the same.

Join a club or take some college courses.

I've been to a few parties where such conversations happen. But usually the people involved need to have a certain level of alcohol in them before they allow themselves to speak so freely.
As for the club you mentioned and the legal implications involved, I'd wager the proprietor would have to ID everyone at the door and check for weapons, but I doubt the masks would be needed. People are not so hindered by social cowardice that they wouldn't be able to relax their need for niceties in your makeshift speakeasy.

Those conversations are awesome if everybody is calm and courteous.

Unfortunately that doesn't usually happen.
