But it runs way deeper than that. I don't know if this thread is the right place to bring it up though. The discussion will be long and probably full of various misconceptions from many people (myself included, I'm sure).

But I guess you could summarize it like this, somewhat simplified: It's due to a low population, high industrial productivity and plentiful natural resources coupled with a long tradition of engineering, social progress and social justice.

danishfag here - i can answer this

danish labor unions rule supreme. over the last one hundred years they have organized workers to vote on politicians that advocate workers rights, higher minimum wages, and that kinda stuff. you know, socialism.

compare to the US, where workers unions have been thought of as communism, and thus been all but B&

danish minimum wage for an 18yr old with no education: 20$ an hour - and it ONLY goes up from there.

of course, there's around 50% income tax, 25% sales tax on everything, and to buy a car is taxed like 150%, but people still get by.

also, no health insurance BS - you pay that shit via taxes (its part of the 50% income tax)

    >>8265281
    >there's around 50% income tax

Sweden here. We only pay 31% municipal income tax unless we make >370k, in which case the state income tax kicks in, and then it's about the same as yours.

    what?

why should be extreme poor???? WHAT?

i think you mean "shouldn't you be extremely poor, when living in a socialist state"

the answer to this is high minimum wages and a lot of socialized services. while the taxes are high, there are less par-as-you-go services. schools are free (i'm getting a free graduate degree, will graduate with no debt) and so on. people save money that way around

I remember some survey where Finns ranked Brits among foreigners they thought most highly of. Most Finns speak at least passably good English and are ready to help. English is also a defacto official language and any official forms you need to fill out will be available in English. So far so good. The real killer when it comes to Finland is the difficulty of finding a good job. It's far easier in Sweden or Norway. In Finland about the only way a foreigner can get a decent job is by having a good university degree or starting your own business. Learning Finnish definitely helps but it's very different from Indo-European languages so most find it very difficult.
