    Internet friends. Who has them?

Even just a few months ago, the idea of it seemed pathetic to me, and i never imagined i would have them. But now i do, and they actually mean something to me. I actually care about them.

I enjoy chatting with them more than i enjoy hanging out with my real friends. Maybe I'm just starting to hate my real friends? They all smoke weed constantly and just talk about the dumbest shit.
    >> Anonymous 03/30/10(Tue)23:46:27 No.8148040
I have three close friends on the internet. I enjoy them more than anyone I know IRL, by a wide margin.
    >> Anonymous 03/30/10(Tue)23:46:28 No.8148041
I have 3 very, VERY close friends I talk to on AIM daily.

Known one of them for 10 years. Meaning I met the guy when I was fucking 12 years old.

Met all three in person, moving to San Diego to room with one of them soon.

I see nothing wrong with this at all.

    >I see nothing wrong with this at all.

There really is nothing wrong with it.

It's kind of got a stigma attached to it, but unless they're you're ONLY friends then I don't see the big deal.

You may only communicate through text, but there's still real human beings with real emotions, personalities, and ideas behind that text. The web is such a big part of our lives nowadays, the entire world is at the touch of a keyboard, i don't see why we shouldn't befriend people over the internet.

I've only had internet friends since 15 or so. I'm 23 now.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/10(Wed)00:13:16 No.8148513
I had a few when I was 13-16, but they since drifted off. I also am an assburger, so I never since had interest in talking to anybody else since, even though I did like my e-friends very much.

I've got a couple internet friends.

One of which was a girl. We were friends for a while. Eventually she confessed her emotions for me and I returned the feelings~ Now I have internet friends and an internet girlfriend.

Feels equal amounts of bad and good, man.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/10(Wed)00:17:08 No.8148594
I don't see the problem with internet friends... I don't have as many as I used to, but there's still a few people I regularly chat with. There's two in particular who I've known for about seven years, and had I not been friends with them when I was younger and going through some tough shit, I might have killed myself.

Too bad we're starting to grow apart. That's life, I guess.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/10(Wed)00:23:29 No.8148689
became online friends with 2 guys when I was 14 or so. Now I'm 19. I'm friends with one of them still, on facebook, and if I ever go to his country I will try and visit him. The other one killed himself a few years ago.

I also became friends with a balkifag from /tv/ a while back, she and I are facebook friends now, too. she's pretty awesome. if she ever wanted to meet irl i'd be down for it.

    those are my internets friends.

I have assloads of internet friends. They enrich my life, help me keep more in touch with the world, and if there's no risk of backstabbing.

I have one very very special friend on the internet that I talk to every day. I've known her for two years now; I've met her once and she's very special to me <3

My boyfriend is from the internet. We have met several times in real life but since I live in the States and he lives in the Great White North, we do not get to have sex very often. Feels bad, man.

    >> Anonymous 03/31/10(Wed)00:29:51 No.8148777
some prepubescent kid I met online, he sends me death threats

Only person who talks to me. Don't feel the least bit remorseful about that.

I dunno. I'm a shitty conversationalist, so it never works out for me.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/10(Wed)00:32:11 No.8148817
    Hell no..

I used to IM with a couple random people when I was 16. That didn't last long.

Haven't done anything of the sort since, I'm now 21.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/10(Wed)00:33:02 No.8148826
I had a couple in high-school. It's really sad. My best-friend, her boyfriend and I were all low-income/latch-key kids with bad home lives so we used the internet as a way of escaping. My parents were particularly overprotective, so it was the only way I could really socialize without being monitored. If I wanted to do something with one of my irl friends, they'd usually tell me no.

So, we'd all chat, and we'd roleplay, watch anime, and just vent to each-other.

    I married one of them.

Now that I'm older and I have very little time for myself, I find that it's just easier to keep in contact with everyone via the internet. My friends and family gave me hell about it in highschool, but now they're encouraging my single friends and cousins to try out online dating.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/10(Wed)00:33:49 No.8148838
I can't keep internet friends because I am socially challenged.

I can never think of anything to say.

Make an aim thread on /r9k/. Play online games and talk to people. That's how I met all my online friends. Been friends with one dude for 6 years.

My IRL friend has alot of them. I get jealous and wish I can make some as easily as they do. I'm a sucky conversationalist and fail at breaking the ice so maybe that's just wishful thinking.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/10(Wed)00:39:55 No.8148942
I used to have Internet friends. However it only takes a few empty or unanswered tangents to realize how cheap the whole arrangement is and how little you are getting out of it.

Imagine a buddy who spends lot of time with out online. Then they're life changes because they lost their v-card or "undisclosed" events happened in a hot tub. Are they still your friend if they suddenly don't talk to you? Will you patiently wait by forever until that person comes back? How many more times are you going to pour your heart out, online, ultimately knowing the sinister truth about a made-up world.

It's exactly at this point when you realize you should go on your own IRL adventures as well. And that's what I generally do.

I used (read as: years ago) to have a few messageboards I posted on that I was a regular at and I made some good friends. Of course, assholes came along and fucked each place up, but I guess that's the life of a messageboard for ya.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/10(Wed)00:40:34 No.8148952
I have vidya game friends. That counts, I assume?

Most of them old guildies from WoW, which I don't play anymore.

Been entirely on the internet for last 10 years, have had friends come and go. One I've known longer than any real friends I ever had.

It's still not the same though. There is nobody to celebrate with or help drown your sorrows.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/10(Wed)00:46:09 No.8149051
I do have a few internet friends of varying importance to me. I haven't met any yet, but I might.

On the other hand, the idea of an internet love relationship sounds fucking ridiculous.
    >> Anonymous 03/31/10(Wed)00:56:43 No.8149183
Have a few people I converse with at times that I wouldn't have any qualms about meeting. Do irl friends that you never see anymore count as internet friends, as well?
    >> Anonymous 03/31/10(Wed)00:59:17 No.8149223
I can't keep internet friends for long anymore because I'm deathly afraid of them wanting to call or meet me IRL. I miss the old days where you could be friends over AIM for years and neither one of you would think it was weird.
