    Why is 4chan so unprofitable?

    ITT: ideas to turn it into a site that actually makes money.

    1) Have a corporate board where, for a fee, companies could post online offers. Only the companies could start threads and would have mod privileges, but anyone could post replies.

    2) More/better ads. Why are there not Google AdSense word-based ads? I know companies don't want to be associated with gore and cp, but why not put them at least on the legit boards and main page?

    3) VIP subscription board where IPs are not logged and anything goes. You would still be somewhat responsible since your subscription would be on record, but no one would know what you posted or read.

    4chan breaks even with just a little more profit. No one is actually collecting a pay check (why would they? it's probably a hobby to them). I'm guessing all the money goes to paying for more bandwidth.

    It's not that 4chan is unprofitable, it's that they don't need any more money.

    The majority of ideas that could turn 4chan profitable either undermine the general principles of Anonymous, or go against Moot's sense of dignity, integity, whatever. The rest of them just don't want anything to do with 4chan.

    That is a good question...two things will happen: Either he hands over control to people who can trust or the site simply dies.

    However, there is a chance that some 4channers may resurrect the site. Same site, same culture, but with different people who know the culture.
