Usually I consider posting, but the fact is that I'm too insignificant to make a shred of difference here, or in the real world for that matter, so my existence is merely for my own pleasure. Wasting my time "contributing" to discussions does not pleasure me.

People should at the VERY LEAST lurk for 5 months before posting on any new board. A year of lurking is preferred.

Either I don't have anything to say regarding the subject at hand, or someone else has already made the point that I was planning on making further on in the thread.

my main issue is that I'll write up a response in a thread, then right before posting it, I hit the back button purposefully. In fact I did it while typing this up.

The only time I ever make a post is in response to a legitimate question about a problem on /g/ or /o/, which, as you know, is not very often. On /r9k/ I post only if there's a real, factual debate about something. 90% of the time 4chan is stupid, juvenile shit that, while I do find humorous, isn't worth my time responding to.

In my 3.5 years here, 1.5 which have been on /r9k/, I've made less that 100 posts.

Those that lurk instead of posting are those that think BEFORE posting and realize that there's nothing they can contribute to the various shitty threads that would increase the quality of that thread and that they should just leave it alone and let it die.

Then there's the group of people who like to say whatever idiotic thought crosses their mind that may slightly pertain to the thread and therefore fag up the thread that much more.

I had a group of friend back in high school who introduced me to 4chan. I was a pretty big newfag, but so where they. I spent all my waking hours lurking and learning the memes/history of the site and soon enough I could post without looking like a complete dolt. One day I mentioned something about making a post on 4chan and they all laughed at me "Only fucked up freaks and depraved people post on 4chan, what the fuck is wrong with you?"

I wondered for sometime why they were so against me posting on 4chan, a little while later I figured it out.

I made a joke when we were hanging out together, some kind of reverse meme (I can't remember what it was) and they all corrected me saying "LOL YOU FAGET THE MEME IS XXX".

They didn't even understand the concept of a reverse meme. They were stuck as cancerous newfags.

I post all the time. I usually just say worthless things, but on occasion I contribute laughable, or substantial material (the piss filled condom balloon exploding in bed.) The first time I posted was like 5 minutes after I was introduced, and it was a picture of my dick.

I learned long ago that people are stupid and tend to leap before they look when something negative provokes them like what >>7976353 said, and I was no exception. It only gets worse as the Internet slap fight/excrement flinging gets more heated. Eventually I became more level-headed when I'd look back at my posts and ask myself what I was thinking, especially after it just negatively provoked more people in the same manner as myself. Most of the posts on this site are negativity provoking negativity, so I just sit back and watch the fight and very rarely post when something positively catches my attention on the special interest boards. Haven't gotten off of 4chan feeling angry in a long time.
