Any aspies on r9k? I'm just wondering.
I'm an aspie and I'm just interested in what you do in your free times, what are your passions and how you pass time in general.
I usually go through a whole days and don't even where the fuck I wasted it.

    >> Anonymous 12/16/11(Fri)15:54:34 No.760830
I am. But /r9k/ is a bad place to talk about it as there are people here who don't like aspies as well as aspies here who are total assholes, plus many others who place all over the autistic spectrum.

Basically, you should probably brace for incoming hate, but there's a chance of us having a good discussion here.

Anyway, I'm quite high-functioning myself. My current favorite thing that I am sinking a lot of time into is reading A Song of Ice and Fire, which I am enjoying immensely, but my other favorite things are pokemon and drawing/writing (though I am terrible at both).

Thanks a lot for informing me but I didn't know in which section such a thread would be appropriate, so I just took my chance.
And I'm high functioning too, people who aren't close to me can't tell me if I'm an Aspie but it still influences my whole life greatly, some times positively but most of the time negatively.

Most people can't tell that I have it until they get to know me, but no one's ever been impolite enough to ask so I don't usually bring it up unless I've known the people for a while and it's topic relevant.

There really is quite a lot of hate towards apies out there and in truth, I can't blame people too badly since the only aspies they're familiar with are the ones on television who are jerks (Abed from Community being the exception to this rule) and the ones in their schools who they see as loud and annoying and disruptive. It is beneficial to be able to keep one's autism to oneself.

No. You must speak to a medical professional about this. I took multiple tests with multiple psychiatrists to be certain, the diagnosis process was hard because each doctor had to get to know me and ask me a lot of questions and stuff, it is NOT the sort of thing you can figure out online.

If you're on this site, you'd better be old enough to get yourself a doctor without your parents.

I think I might have aspergers. My entire family thinks I do, and I fit the bill in a lot of ways.

Maybe I'm just a social recluse though. I go out once in awhile when I have the opportunity, but that's not very often since I don't drive. When I've told friends my suspicions they always say I definitely don't seem like it, but maybe that's because whenever I do anything social I rely on weed/alcohol and some other drugs on occasion to help loosen me up.

Maybe if I made an effort to better my life things would change. I don't know why I feel utterly unable to. Maybe it's the aspergers, maybe it's depression, maybe it's one of the dozens of other mental disorders I've looked up. And maybe I'm just fucking lazy.

I see. You probably have a counselling center somewhere on campus that's free for students? Chances are they won't have psychiatrists, but you can start talking to them about how to get diagnosed with it, they might know a way to help you.

You could ask the same thing of your medical doctor next time you have a check up, talk to him/her about maybe finding a free clinic somewhere that could help you.

    >>761034
What you have described doesn't sound like Asperger's, but if you really think you might have it, it is worth your money to see a psychiatrist about it.

    >it is NOT the sort of thing you can figure out online

Nonsense. I am very knowledgeable about a certain small platform game (and while my interest in it peaked, I hardly played other games), used to enjoy writing in PHP, have aa favourite shirt and trousers in which I'd preferably go out all the time, and used to be un-social as in no partying, no drinking, and no friends, and yet I had no problems not diagnosing myself with AS.

Will any of that show up in a record? I'm the type who hates taking mind-altering, chemical-imbalancing drugs and if there is a way my parents would figure out, they'd probably want to try experimenting to see if it'd keep me from being a shut-in and actually having a physical social life instead of a virtual one.

I have full blown autism, not Asperger's, but my interests are:

    - Video game perfectionism accompanied by ASMR audio
    - Writing fiction
    - Physics

If any of you want an internet diagnosis from a guy who knows more about autism than the typical psychologist does (I've spent a lot of time with retarded, sick, and disabled people in my life, at various special schools and whatnot), list your suspected symptoms (without consulting the internet) and I'll tell you what I think. Just ignore the quick-to-anger people who believe that modern psychologists actually learned about autism and Asperger's in college, and didn't just hear about it two weeks ago because of FOX News.

You will have to ask the people at your school about counselling records (like when you go and such) being available, but if you are seeing psychiatrist/psychologist/doctor they will be bound by doctor/patient confidentiality and will not talk to your parents about your discussions.

Chances are you will not be given any medication unless you have other problems. You can't really medicate autism, you have to medicate things like anxiety and depression. Also, if you're an adult you can't be compelled to take anything.

I really wonder how many people actually have a real case of assburgers since we have been getting so many self/misdiagnosed faggots.

It is a neurological problem and usually come with another neulogical issue as well, for instance along with asperger i have tourette too (nothing as extreme as the tourettes guy assuming that was even real but ticks DO exist and made me suffer in my childhood).

So from someone with a genuine case: fuck you. All of you who ''think'' you may be autistic only make matters worse for those of us who actually have it (and i am willing to be the people who DO have it amount only to 3% of the actual population).

The statistic that I have seen on billboards in my area is that 1 in 112 children are diagnosed now with autism.

Of course diagnosis doesn't always mean they have it, and it's possible to have it and not be diagnosed, so that number's a little iffy.

But those could be blamed on other things, that is why I am so unsure about being an Aspie.

Interesting! I have a weird response to stuff like that, for the longest time I was absolutely terrified of people with facial piercings, it made it a thousand times more difficult to recognize people let alone communicate. What draws you to them? I'm curious now.
    >> Anonymous 12/16/11(Fri)16:43:38 No.761315

Then chances are you do not have it. Better to rule out all other possibilities and as a last resort get go to a doctor to diagnose you. Diagnosis at your age might be difficult however and its best to not get just one (assuming your diagnosis is positive that you have it).

But like i said you barely ''qualify'' with all that so your problem lies elsewhere.

    Of course it does.
I for example have a real hard time with subjects I don't find interesting or like, and it's not the dislike that everyone else has where they will force themselves through it, I will literally not do my work and then have a mental breakdown the day before it' s due.
Also, if I'm in class and I'm having a boring subject I am sooo easily distracted it's not even funny, and my brain thinks it's a great time to turn to mush so I literally won't understand anything of what I'm reading, even if it's easy as fuck.

OP here. Holy shit dude, I feel you, same thing happens to me in every project.
I know that feel and hate it and you explained it well.

That guy is a troll, but I find it much easier to obtain and disseminate information reading and writing/speaking the way I do. I don't use big words for their own sake, but they help convey things more clearly and with less ambiguity.

    That's me to the letter.
