Non South,
I wasn't raised in your land. I don't like your
culture. It's not you...wait, who am I kidding? It is you.
You
have no values. I'm not talking about you not sharing my brand of values
or anything judgmental like that, oh no, you literally have nothing
that you independently believe in. Your entire life is filled with
nothing but lurching from one emotional high to the other from whatever
source you can get it from in one giant consumer society clusterfuck.
You have no sense of history, of heritage, of pride; nothing that
distinguishes you from the suburban-dweller next door. Sure, you might
buy a different colored car than his, but that's as far as you can do or
you'll be fined by your home owners association.
Furthermore,
your entire reality is determined by whatever is popular at the current
time. If it's "edgy" or mainstream, you're on it like a fly to shit. You
call the South ignorant and backwards for not changing very much, but
at least we can logically trace the trends in our culture from their
starting point to current. Do you even know why bell-bottoms are
suddenly back in style or why everyone around you goes to a Starbucks?
Of course you don't.
The confederacy paraphernalia isn't a
celebration of slavery, it's a celebration of individuality. Most (over
90%) of the southerners that fought in the war didn't even own slaves;
they fought because people like you were trying to dictate what they
should do from somewhere hundreds of miles away. Of course, you wouldn't
know anything about fighting for an ideal or celebrating individuality,
would you? No, you're just a dime-a-dozen cardboard cutout of a human
being.
I agree with you about the women, though. Shit is wack. |
