It is really necesary to go to college to be successful? Lately I've lost the will to study, I feel that it would be better if I start to work now.

I live in Colombia by the way. please help me.

no, but you have to have ambition and drive. You can work and study, so you can get a taste of each

In 1st world countries you need a degree to get anywhere.

You used to be able to join an accountancy firm or whatever straight out of school, but now you would need a degree before you're even considered.

Don't worry though, that's only in 1st world countries.

Yes, the only nation is the world right now where you have just as much chance with college as without for most non-technical careers is America.

    Get cracking.

Even though I am going to college, i am well aware that to be successful, you do not need to go to college. however, you do have to go to some school to get anywhere in this society. If you don't want to go to a university, try a technical or trade college. they will ACTUALLY help you get places in life. Surprisingly, I havce heard sopme people out of auto school making 60k a year after only two years. Its really a matter of navigating through the right chanells.

If you refuse to go to school, your only hope is a gamble at an entrepreneurship, or starting or franchising a business. this, a good 80 some pervent of the time yeilds poor to mild results

Going off what fellow anon said...
Not only that that, but getting a loan for a business start up requires you to have some sort of degree in business management. otherwise, banks just cant trust you

Get a degree in something that interests you.

Then get a job. Doesn't necessarily have to be in the field you studied. Just having the piece of paper will mean you get paid more.

    >work at UPS part time for three years, live with parents, spend no money aside from entertainment
    >move to full time driving a package car
    >make almost $50k my first year driving
    >college friends complaining about debt and inability to find jobs
    >I now make about $60k each year, age 23
    >friends that went to grad school are stressed, living in tiny apartments, and will be in debt for 30 years
    >smoke weed and play video games

Maybe it works for some, but not me. I love to read and learn and better myself, but can't stand a classroom environment. Good thing I'm doing just fine.

    change your college
this works 95% of the times, and yes, I just pulled that number out my ass.
    >> Anonymous 02/07/10(Sun)21:18:24 No.7419455
I dropped out of college and was making 65k by the age of 23. Which was a lot better than all of the kids I knew who graduated 4yr, or most the kids I knew who got a job after completing their masters. Depends on your experience and specialty. Mine was hospitality, other guy I knew was making 60k (after 4ys) as a union carpenter only w/ HS degree. I could possibly be making 80k+ at this moment if i utilized my potential and didnt take a 2yr hiatus.

How do you make that type of money without going to school?
    >> Anonymous 02/07/10(Sun)21:43:58 No.7419660

There are lots of jobs you can get that don't require a degree. If you're only about the money just get a skill like plumbing or mechanic or something. If you're not a physical person you could get a job waiting table (which is a surprisingly well paying job once you get experience and work for the nice restaurants) or get a clerk position.

Personally, I'm okay with going to college because I wanted to do something that required a degree. I'll be making $60K min walking out of the door judging by the offers I'm getting and I'm leaving with $20K of debt which isn't bad at all. I'll pay that off within a year.
