ITT: the quality of your chosen career.
actual janitor here, feels good
High tier here :) Not agreed on the scale though. First of all, creativity determination is off for some of the jobs, second of all, joblesness chances aren't accounted for.
>implying engineers are less creative than software developersgigglingelfgirl.jpg
>architects, writers, and artists as god tierGripping troll, friend. I predict at least 150 replies.
I'm a writer. Let me just check where that falls on the graph..>Makes less than half the amount of a teacherFFFFUUU
>implying there is any creativity in the software industry today
I was a janitor for awhile, I fully enjoyed it.
Professor makes more than accountant? You best be joking nigger.>>7390724That's actually supposed to be Link.
This is already turning into a shitstorm of >implyingI'm saging my own fucking thread.
Shit tier here, im a cook.
Artist is in the wrong spot.I make $35-120 an hour to paint for clients depending on the project.
>>7390750IIRC accountants only make around 80k mid-career. Professors make over 100k.
>>7390706this is actually strangely accurate for some of these threads
>>7390740>implying saging works
somehowthisisnotanoriginalcommentblox>>7390764>implying your personal experience extrapolates to everyone in your field
>>7390750No, it's Zelda. Link is male. Zelda is a girl. I know it's confusing because Zelda is the name of the series, but trust me.
lol @ salesman higher than engineer
Software developer and architect offer the best mix of salary and creativity (they are closest to the top-right corner), and are thus the best careers.
Teachers should be more on the creative axis. In fact they should be in the god tier... problem is you get shitty teachers and amazing teachers. The reason I say move teachers to the god Tier is because you've included the arts, yet some artists are complete shit... just look at pop and compare the talent quality and effort of the artist wo's at home busting out symphonies that no one will hear because he's too poor to but it out.If you include shitty artists & amazing artists to qualify for god tier, move teachers there too.
>>7390766At some schools, yes, but at others they make 50-70k, and CPAs are almost always in the top 5% of income in their area of operations.
>>7390751What the fuck did you expect, it's a "hurr how much money are you going to make with your job" thread. I'm glad you fucking came to your senses early and saged it.
>>7390776 I know a shitton of artists who make everywhere from $20-250+++ an hour. You just have to be good and willing to paint what others want instead of what you want. If anything that spot should be for fine artists and there should be a separate dot for commercial artists because the game is completely fucking different.
>>software developer>>artist>>banker>>god tierWHAT FUCK WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCKHigh tier > god tier
>>7390793dude this is obviously an average of the entire field. going by your logic you could do that for every single fucking occupation and the screen would be nothing but red
>>7390802 Well, I guess... But I still don't agree with it's placement.
what the fuck is salesman doing above engineer? most salesmen make less than 40k.
>>7390796>implying banking, the most competitive, lucrative (by far), and selective, job in the world shouldn't be god tierif this was more accurate banking would be off the chart for salary
>>7390777No, the picture is of Link, who is male. It comes from the cutscenes of the three Zelda games for Phillips CD-i. On the left is Zelda as she appears in the games, and Link is on the right.
Where is a comedian?
>>7390831Delivering pizza. ZING!
Where's manager of ethical hacking consultants?
Where's mercenary on the chart?
>>7390815Retail workers aren't salesmen, bro.http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bestjobs/2009/highpay/toppay.htmlThis is a list of the highest paying jobs by median salary. There are two kinds of salesman on this list, and no engineers.
>>7390828That is a picture of Zelda on the right and Na'vi on the left, the two women in Link's life.
>>7390854Oops wrong list, that one is for top pay. Here is median salary:http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bestjobs/2009/highpay/index.htmlAlthough both are the same - two salesmen, zero engineers.
>>7390855It's Link on the right trying to convince Zelda on the left to kiss him. Stop being and idiot.
>>7390835tomgoestothemayorface.jpg
Graph is inaccurate. Engineers should have 0 for creativity.
>>7390855damn you, meta trolls. damn you. the internet is a very fucked up place because of you guys.
>>7390854That list is fishy. OBs are on the list, but where's the pathologists, radiologists, orthopedic surgeons, cardiac surgeons, etc? I know the median's over $114k, which is the lowest of the top 10.
Being a janitor actually requires a lot of creativity just to keep yourself from losing your mind out of boredom. For example, I carry a one-hitter and have managed to stay high at work nearly every day for the past year without getting caught and I work in a large public school. That's skill right there.
>>7390885Agreed. Also, software developers do not belong in the God Tier.
They found out builders are among the happiest people in careersat least compared to accounting and any office job, because they get to see the fruits of their labour
>>7390922>I am so creative that I need to get high at work to stop from killing myselfWhat
shouldn't professor/researcher be a bit higher on creativity? Work in academia myself and find it extremely rewarding from a creative perspective... pay might not be as good as other jobs with equal qualifications
NURSE!!!blox
Software developer here, so I guess that makes me god tier.Feels good, man.
>>7390706your chart is interesting, and definitely a little more reasonable / non-aspie than the usual tier lists of shit since it acknowledges the fulfilling / creative aspect of jobs. However I think there's a third factor in jobs that has to do with your impact on other people, whether or not you directly change people's lives in a positive way. Writers/Artists have that to some extent, but in particular I think teachers and nurses have it for instance, which would raise them up a lot higher than the tier you currently have them in.How to graph that, I don't know.Actually, when you consider what I'm talking about, almost none of the jobs besides menial work like "janitor" are shit tier - they all have something to offer - and as a matter of fact the lowest jobs are probably things like "banker" and "accountant". Which I think is an accurate reflection of real life.
>>7390941source?also, by builders, do you mean architects?I'd buy that, but I do not buy "builders" in terms of construction workers or anyone who is doing the down and dirty stuff.
I deally I want to do accountant ->banker -> entrepreneurBut in reality that might just be accountant -> banker.>god tier>artist>musicianHahahahah! Good one.
>>7390867wow.I would not have guessed that anesthesiologists would make so much money.
>>7391077I have a semi-friend, who I hang out with sometimes due to his association with my other friends, who's an accountant. He has the personality of a brick.now, I don't hold that against him, because I think he chose accounting due to a reliable well-paying job opportunity and he can't rely on financial help from parents for instance, so I understand his reasoning and realize I am luckier than him.But still, a brick I tell you.
>>7391065I've done all kinds of work. I was happiest by far when I was doing construction. I wasn't making as much money but the feeling at the end of the day almost made up for it. Almost.
>>7391148hmm, well, I guess I can't argue with that then. I am surprised one would find a job like that enjoyable but I haven't tried it personally, so I guess I can't really talk.
how does being a banker require no creativity? do you think they just figure everything out by punching numbers into formulas?
would someone like to explain to me how OP figures profs make more than accountants? Professors of what, exactly? I'm in linguistics and I know my profs are probably on a par with the nurse, at best
>>7391151You should try it if you get the chance. I'm not saying it's for everybody, but you might like it. You're doing something new every day. You get plenty of fresh air and sunshine. Sometimes it's hard physical labor which releases endorphins, and sometimes it's problem solving which is a completely different feeling when you finish but still very satisfying. And at the end of the day I had actually accomplished something. I'd created a real physical change in my environment. I can drive around my hometown and point out buildings that I personally helped construct. If you're a stockbroker or a banker or whatnot all you can really point at is forms you filled out in triplicate every day for thirty years.Winters sucked, roofing sucks, and laying drain tile sucks, among other things.
Architect, FUCK YEH !
>>7391196Depends on the subject, but in general they earn a lot. More than lawyers in fact.http://www.resumagic.com/hpj_grad.html
>>7391253That's a list by hourly wage. If you think lawyers don't work any more hours per week than professors you need to flush out your headgear.
>>7391287Samefag. It's also only a 24 cent difference, and lawyers have a MUCH wider range of possible salaries.
>>7391196If you're a famous professor then you get payed thousands of dollars just give a one hour lecture at a university. You can literally just spend years of your life travelling the world, going from conference to conference, all expenses paid.
>>7391077Musician isn't on the list, bro...
>Teachers in Low Tier>implying good salesmen aren't creativeCool theorycrafting, bro.
>>7391287Yeah but lawyers also get expenses like secretaries and such if they have their own office. You'd have to be a pretty damned good trial lawyer to make more than a professor.
Wat <:OCreativity DOES NOT MEAN throwing poop on the wall and calling it art.. Fuck dammit morons..
> Artist> Low salary Oh heyApart from that this is the most accurate tier list out there.
software developer here. yea life is pretty good. never really tried to hard. but i got here. banged a bunch of girls, have the most smoking fiance ever. My status has sky rocketed and it aint shabby. the fiance prob put it over the top. hmm from what i learned about it is.. get yourself a hot girl, seriously everyone looks up to your for it. men, women, people of all ages know you are a hard ass because of your hot girl. employers see that hot girl of yours, you have to be good in some way nature tells them
I'm a hair stylist, it fucking rocks.
>>7391632If you want to make I-banking type money in law you have to work for a biglaw firm and get on partner track.
>>7391673software developer my dick.the only thing you've developed is your fat gut.
Interior designer here. Best job in the world!Who else gets to design places where people will spend most of their time? People really love you if you make their house amazing.Plus it's far from hard work, and my situation is seen as a quirk and helps me get customers :3
Software Developer here. It is a pretty intellectually demanding job but pays well. It tires me out a lot more than when I worked in a stock room during University.
>>7391287Most lawyers make horribly average salaries. It's only a tiny minority - less than 10% who make HUGE money in BigLaw, which tip the scales, and give misleading income averages for lawyers.I read a good article published in an academic journal which stated that unless you think you have a very good chance of ending up in BigLaw, then don't go into law, because it won't pay off.
>>7391120Finance guy here, it's true, accountants have to be some of the shittiest people out there.
>>7391705i bodybuild actually. remember i have a hot fiance
Doctor depends highly on country. Here, a doctors salary is slightly above average. Shit sucks compared to the amount of administrative work they have to do here.
>>7391727This. Go to top 20 law school. Graduate in top quarter of class. Otherwise, do something else.
>>7390751>implying >implying is bad
Politician!The GOD tier assholes.
>>7391659What about Graphic Design/Web Design??
Anyone that goes into a "business" field - that includes accounting, banking, management, etc. - is guaranteed to be a boring fuck. They have no real interests, and have no idea of what to do for money, except to "do" money itself. "Business" is not real work, it's an abstraction of work, for people too boring and uncreative to even think of real work to spend their time on.
>>7391727What of it? We're talking about people with strength to begin with. If you want money and you have strength then you'll be able to go into corporate law and eventually be kingshit of the world.
>>7391790>implying accountants and managers are not creativeLrn2 Enron
>>7391782They make next to nothing.
>>7391148Interesting...I've had similar thoughts myself, I'm currently a trainee actuary and find it to be fairly mediocre and souless. I've felt for a while that I'd be more satisfied...I'd almost say spiritually, doing some form of manual labour, in particular construction. I've never actually worked in manual labour, so I just put this down to "grass is always greener" syndrome. Actuary does have its merits- if I go on to qualify, my job will fairly stable, with ample opportunity to move round should I get bored in one role. But the work, at least so far, ain't hugely interesting and I dunno if that'll change (or that doing something totally different, eg programming, engineering would be much better). Plus, who wants to devote their life to a fucking insurance company?
>>7391790I get it man.Working for someone instead working for yourself and managing your own firm. I got it!
My dream job isn't on here D:.
>>7391828Get better dreams.
>>7391683Meaning 80 hours a week work weeks, no holidays.
>>7391821Bullshit. People with degrees in management or finance don't work for themselves. People who work for themselves almost invariably come from a skilled background like software development or engineering. You can't go into business without having a real skill to offer people.
Janitors actually get paid a pretty good amount of money where I live.
>>7391859Where do you live, a fucking slum?
How much does a soldier earn in the US?
>>7390724>implying they aren't roughly equal in terms of salary and creativity
>>7391874Practically nothing. Around 30-40k iirc.
>>7391847Of course. You aren't going to make I-bank money without working I-bank hours. No way around it.
>>7391882and how much extra do they get if they serve in a warzone?
>>7391874About 36k a year, but it varies a bit because they get any number of bonus payments in a month but since they have no expenses like rent or food, its ~2200/mo 3000/mo in the bank.
>Nurse and Teacher not at least mid to high tier.>Artist high tier.>Modern art.wat
>>7391881See: http://www.paulgraham.com/hp.htmlSoftware development is far more creative than engineering.
>>7391904but what about...computer engineering
>>7391923Uncreative. It's engineering. Software development is something different entirely.>Sometimes what the hackers do is called "software engineering," but this term is just as misleading. Good software designers are no more engineers than architects are. The border between architecture and engineering is not sharply defined, but it's there. It falls between what and how: architects decide what to do, and engineers figure out how to do it.
old shit in a new can
the trend is that the market will get saturated with software engineers, developers...eventually. What then? How do you change the profession? For example, a nurse can look after an old lady that has no one but a big house that she lives in in exchange for the old ladies home. Sounds reasonable. As long you have peoples you'll have money!
> My face when everyone on r9k is an engineerEnjoy trying to get a job in your post recession saturated market.
>>7391986This isn't the trend at all. The amount of people going into computer science crashed after the dotcom bubble, and ignorant parents everywhere advised their kids to go into "traditional" (read: saturated) fields. This pushed the price up for software developers, to the point where they now make more than most engineers.
You fags do realize that an engineers task is to solve actual problems, let it be mechanic, chemical, architect related or whatever? How do you manage to do that without creativity?
The graph is pretty good, but there are also other factors to consider, for example one's control over his environment.A banker makes great money, but has almost zero control over his environment. He MUST work 80+ hours a week, and he MUST play office politics, and he MUST miss his kids soccer games. This takes a huge toll on one's happiness and career satisfaction. On the other hand, a IT consultant can pick his jobs, work when he likes, take a week off if he feels like it.Another measure to take into account would be feeling of contribution. Nurses and teachers can feel satisfied at the end of the day, knowing they are making the world a better place. Lawyers and bankers can't say the same.
>>7392049the trend is still a trend...without engineers...that just leaves the field empty for real investments. Like roads, energy, housing...While developing only consumes time, nerves, and few electric bills.
>>7392064They figure that out with trained knowledge and mathmatics. If an engineer offered a "creative" explaination of the maximum load of a bridge he designed his ass would be fired.
Teacher here. Low tier? More like pro tier.
>>7392064First of all...math beats creativity.Second....reality beats creativity.Third....creativity today is what the other guy thought.
heh. one of my friends is a janitor and he fucking loves it.
>>7392091That is correct usually, but there are problems that can't be solved with just routine knowledge. Or, a lot of engineers do inventing work too.
>>7392083>Lawyers and bankers can't say the same.Enjoy your world without contracts and credit.
>>7392091take a design course. 50% is bullshit writing for a client50% is basically brainstorming and trying to come up with as many ways to solve a problem as possibletl;dr engineering design is creative. making the thing you want is what is tedious and is why you need so much math and science
I'm an Transportation Planner/Demographer. Where do I fall on the chart?
landscape architecture. salary of a professor or so, creativity of an architect or so.
planning to be a lawfag but fuck if I got offered a janitors job paying 20 dollars a hour Id take it
god tier professor fuck year!
This diagram is a biased pile of horse shit. Quality isn't defined by creativity and salary alone. You need quite a few more planes. Where's Job Satisfaction? Benefit to Society? Security? Add to this the fact that each factor is held in different regard by each individual, and you have something that cannot be so easily tiered.By the way, I'm an engineer. And you are an idiot for putting nurses and teachers in low tier.
>>7392230>aspie that is butthurt about not being considered creative>By the way, I'm an engineerWow, what a surprise.
Sure is nice being in Marketing.
>>7392130The maths and science is what makes engineering respectable and satisfying. If you didn't have that you'd just be an ignorant child.
>>7392248>Obvious grudge against engineers>Either an asspained physics major or a jealous liberal arts major
lol, capitalists...
>>7392172take it!when you sum it all up, its all about crap!
>>7392289"lol" Lefty wanker. You can't survive in this world.
you guys r cool
Right, becuase Doctors and Lawyers dont work with different people every day and have to find suitable methods of working with/on them to meet their unique status.
future professor here.
Janitor Nurse Teacher and Builder = NECESSARY TIEReverything else... fucking waste of money
I'm an investment banker, FUCK YEAH!
>>7390706You know, OP, you have a very simplistic view of careers.
>Teacher>Paid less than nurses>No creativityHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
High tier. Although I don't really care about the salary. I only want to become a lawyer so I can fuck with the bankers.
FUCK YEAH!First time I've seen artist in god tier.
>>7392597>Implying teachers make more than nurses.
