People used to get diagnosed in frightening numbers with ADD. Nowadays it's autism and Aspergers. It's a load of horse shit. We don't really understand any of them so we just throw everything in.

Well, asperberger is apparently genetic. I've struggled socially my entire life, was always unable to make friends, ended up in Learning Disabled programs etc, but even though I went to a psychologist I never got the aspie card.

Now I'm 22, and I dropped out of college because of anxiety not even over the actual coursework and I'm at a social worker who tells me I have it, as I have every symptom down to a tee. She suggests I should take medication, I was on a program for a bit before I said fuck that and started working out.

I've been pretty much best friends for 10 years with a dude who has it. I know its not a made up disorder. He does not think in the same way we do, he's intelligent, perceptive and a good person, but he thinks different.

I'm actually struggled with Asperger syndrome for years. The reason why I was bullied for three years is because I was unable to understand social cues of teenagers my age in middle and high school. My parents had to pull me out of public school completely.

But I did managed to thrive in a non-public school and made a few friends. I managed to find my own niche with people with the same interested I have, but with social interaction...I function in mainstream society, but I can socialize with the mainstream. I know a lot more about politics and government, technology, and a lot of stuff than most Americans.

As for a life of complete isolation, not all aspiefags have a life of complete isolation. They do go out, but not as often as normalfags unless it's related to a interest.

One obstacle that may have some truth is that, many aspies can't get a job because of a lack of social interaction, because most job hunting involves networking.

Other than that, yes, I am a proud aspiefag.

I don't want to self diagnose myself over the Internet, but, I didn't speak a word until I was 4 years old, and I was illiterate until I was almost 13.

Doctors were convinced there was something wrong with me mentally, autism, brain tumor, a whole laundry list of excuses.

My mom didn't buy into any of it, never put me on medication, never treated me any differently from any other child.

I now have a college degree, working in a top secret military position, have a number of good friends whom I trust, and have slept with 3 women (not a huge accomplishment, but, meh, it's something).

God only knows what I might've turned out like if my mother didn't love me as much as she did, and held me with such regard that she had the patience to work through whatever developmental problems I was having rather than giving me a pill and an excuse to act different.

But, then again, not every mother is as great as mine.

Sadly, the fact that I have manic depression and possibly aspergers on my medical record prevented me from joining the military. Now I'm stuck at home with mom and dad and no clearly defined career paths available to me, or at least until the Army or the Marine Corps starts having trouble recruiting again once this recession ends. But that could easily be over 2 years down the road. In the mean time, I'll be flipping burgers and stashing my paychecks in the bank.
