Facebook sucks if you never actually get out of the house and interact with people.

I get numerous invites to parties, shows, and festivals that I would otherwise not know about. I can check the RSVP and see if any of my friends are going and see what kind of crowd it's going to be. It's great for night clubs too, because a lot of the times you can get your name on the list and not pay a cover.

I also don't consider this a bad thing considering everyone from employers to creditors are checking Facebook profiles and other social networking sites before making decisions. Yes, I know privacy settings exist, but they only go so far. Because I dislike the entire idea of social networking sites and of leaving traces of myself on the internet. I left a few identifying things a while back and they're still on the internet 14 years later. I learned from that. Anonymity from here on online. Besides if I want to talk to my friends I'll call them or hang out with them.

I once had one, but decided to close my account. I had a fair amount of friends, all of whom I knew in real-life at some point or another. I guess for me, it was a combination of the annoying applications and irritating status updates that drove me away. There weren't any good photos being posted either by and large. The other thing is, this probably comes off as jealously, but I hated seeing how successful my friends had become after college and I'm still unemployed and living at home. It's a shitty, constant reminder to have to see that every day.

The only drawback to leaving Facebook is that my social life has taken a plunge because everyone uses it to invite people to events and no one bothers calling anyone anymore. As a result, I haven't really communicated much with any of the friends I've had on Facebook, aside from the rare call or e-mail.
