r9k i need some suggestions. Tomorrow is the first day of spring semester at community college for me, and I want to try to get started on the right foot. My schedule has a half hour break in midday which is when I'm gonna eat my lunch. Here's my dilema. I don't have any friends to spend the time with. How do I avoid looking like an awkward loner sitting and eating by myself?

Last semester I spent my breaks listening to my ipod in the library away from judging eyes (or at least faced away from them). I want to change this semester so what should I do?

I really don't think I have the guts to approach someone and sit with them, so I'm hoping that someone might sit with me instead; how do I look very approachable?
Fuck I'm worrying a lot right now. I want to try going with people from my last class and be like "I'm gonna go eat some lunch you want to come?" but ugh I've never done that in my fucking life.

tl;dr drat ugh. How to not spend my breaks between classes alone?

Well, if you look cool while you're eating, people will probably join you. Eat your lunch in the middle of the mess-hall, have a book open, you don't have to actually be reading it just pretend to. Somebody will approach you as long as you dress well enough and don't look creepy. If you happen to make eye contact with someone, smile.

    This.

Also a lot of people eat alone during lunch at college. As the semester goes on I'm sure you will find some friends and all that good shit.

Thanks. I never really got the courage to go to the cafeteria last semester, but one time I went to meet a group for a group project and saw a lot of people with their ipods all alone so I guess I won't be the only one.

    To the cafeteria!

No one is judging you as they eat.

If it bothers you, walk up to another person eating alone or a group that looks interesting and introduce yourself and ask to join them at their table. People rarely say no after high school and your problem is solved.

You can also ask people in your class, they will either say yes, or give you an excuse... nothing wrong with either answer.

Making friends is easy... it just starts with you taking the first step.

You're quiet welcome, brobot. Hopefully you'll find a girl to make a relationshit thread about.

I have kind of the same problem as OP, but I don't really feel like going out and making friends. It's often said (or used to be, at least) on this board that getting a girlfriend won't solve all your problems like some magical cure. Rather, a girlfriend is just more problems to add on to your current set of problems.
Personally, I'm under the belief that the same is true of friends too, especially since, this being college, the friends one makes here are more like close acquaintances rather than 'bestfriends4eva~' like what people usually find in high school.

    Am I wrong?
