I'm looking at French or Japanese. French because I know a lot of girls take it, like my ex gf. And Japanese because I'm a quasi-weaboo.

    Which should I take?
    >> Anonymous 01/13/10(Wed)18:52:33 No.7084395
French and Spanish are both romance languages aren't they? Meaning that it'll be fairly easy for you to learn French after having learned Spanish.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/10(Wed)18:52:53 No.7084401
Take farsi, hebrew or arabic instead. you'd need one of these middle eastern language one day.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/10(Wed)18:52:57 No.7084403
    just stick with Spanish

You'll be able to find a job easier with it than anything else
    >> Anonymous 01/13/10(Wed)18:53:47 No.7084416
What the fuck kind of useless languages are those? Be a man and learn German. Or Italian.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/10(Wed)18:54:42 No.7084435
If I had to choose I would take the moonspeak. I'm not much of a weaboo but I think that taking Japanese would be a lot more fun and interesting. I'm sure it would do wonders with impressing asian women but that's just my preference. French would probably be easier and probably have a lot more women in the class. It's your choice bro.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/10(Wed)18:55:00 No.7084443
Dude, you already have experience in Spanish, take it again for fucks sake. Should be easy as shit.

Japanese isn't worth it. It takes twice as long to learn because it's so far from English. And what are you going to do with it, translate porn and cartoons?
    >> Anonymous 01/13/10(Wed)18:56:59 No.7084474
    French is technically more useful.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/10(Wed)18:57:20 No.7084482
Speak with the Spanish head. I've know people who didn't have Chinese requirements, but they had a 15 minute conversation with the main Chinese teacher in Chinese and he gave him credit for 101 and 102.

    Take Spanish or Chinese.

If you're really set on one of the two you mentioned, take French.

BUT NO MATTER WHAT DO NOT TAKE JAPANESE
I'm serious, I took Japanese for two years and I wish I had never set foot on that dark and lonesome path.

Why don't you give English another shot, bro?

Anon is right. go for French. It's quite similar to Spanish and easier than Japanese.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/10(Wed)19:00:55 No.7084539
    French.

Italian is better, if they offer it.

    German is neat too.

Why not just take Spanish again? You know you won't fail it.

Japanese takes quite some time to learn (it's really fucking hard, but not as hard as Chinese) and you'll probably end up somewhat ostracized if you're in the weeaboo class.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/10(Wed)19:01:31 No.7084551
    >>7084517
Harder than Japanese but actually useful because it is a rare skill. There are tons of weeaboos who speak shitty Japanese, few who speak shitty Chinese.
    >> Anonymous 01/13/10(Wed)19:01:45 No.7084554

    Spanish or Mandarin
The two that I plan on going for when I get off my lazy ass.
Spanish because its becoming our second language and I like the idea of being able to travel the entirety of the American continents if I'm fluent enough. (In before Brazilians speak Portuguese)

And the chinese because it'll be a lot more useful than Japanese in the long run.

That being said out of your two choices I'd go with French. Bitches love a dude that can speak french. While you're at it pick up an astronomy course as well so you can point out all the constellations in the sky.

take spanish, it's easier to maintain in the us, what with the spanish language tv/media so prevalent.

if not, take french-- the grammar is pretty similar so it wouldn't be too ball busting for a new language.

    >> Anonymous 01/13/10(Wed)19:04:10 No.7084587
Just speak Spanish. If you live in the US there is an actual possibility you might use it at some point.

Lolno. Let me guess, you heard somewhere from someone a few times that China is big and important and powerful and is totally going to kick the world's ass and end up on top, the big dog, amirite?

Go educate yourself you fucking idiot.

Japanese is way more interesting, in a "I love linguistics and I'm also a weaboo" sense, but...
French is gonna be really, REALLY easy if you just took Spanish. I've taken all three, by the way.

You might use it, but chances are you won't get anything out of using it unless you're a construction foreman.

Since you're not able to take Spanish, take French. It's a Romance language, like Spanish, and it will be much easier to learn and do well in the class if you're just looking for a credit fulfillment. Don't be a god damned weaboo. No one will be impressed, and everyone will know you're doing it because you're a weaboo.
Also, as a girl, I would go for the French-speaking cool guy over the Japanese-speaking nerd.
