    http://news.yahoo.com/chinas-hu-urges-navy-prepare-combat-160509787.html

    >Chinese President Hu Jintao on Tuesday urged the navy to prepare for military combat, amid growing regional tensions over maritime disputes and a US campaign to assert itself as a Pacific power.

    >The navy should "accelerate its transformation and modernisation in a sturdy way, and make extended preparations for military combat in order to make greater contributions to safeguard national security," he said.

Really China? On the eve of the anniversary of Pearl fucking Harbor you're gonna pull this shit?

    Doesn't matter.

America has the most effective air force on the planet, and if the 20th century taught us anything, its that ships are no match for good planes. China's navy would be at the bottom before they knew what hit them.

Don't be fucking stupid. Money makes the world go round, and right now, it's not in anyone's benefit to go attacking. Iran is developing nuke technology illegally, just like Israel did forty years ago.

The only reason that people are flipping out is because Israel has been doing everything they can to get Americans whipped up to go to war on their behalf.

Israel has nukes. Iran knows it. Ahmedinajad is a figurehead leader with no real power, inside or outside Iran.

China itself is nigh impregnable. Their ship killing missiles would sink the bulk of the pacific fleet before it was close enough to launch aircraft. Their air defense is equally impressive. I wish I could find the video on youtube of an air force briefing about how fucked our air force would be in an assault on China because of how advanced their defense is.

It's easy to upgrade defense to counter an attacker, it's much harder and more expensive to keep your offensive capabilities ahead of an enemies defense.

Also the F22 and F35 and shitty planes.

And Australia is all like "WTF, mate?"

No doubt our pussy government will be dragged into any new conflict/war by the US.

The US Military has been allowed to have 2500 personnel stationed in the top end (Darwin) of Australia. This will probably expand until its a full sized Military base.

A war between China and the US depends on a couple of things.

    What will Russian do ?

For those not understanding the reference here, China developed a ballistic missile that can supposedly sink a large ship, with the idea being that a ballistic missile comes down very fast, so it would be difficult to intercept in the terminal phase. The only problem with that is that the latest versions of AEGIS and the Standard Missile (which are what protect a carrier battle group from air attack) were specifically designed to intercept ballistic missiles.

It is not a war with the United States that China is considering. A war with the United States fought via conventional is currently not possible.

This is because we have both first strike and second strike capabilities. I.E. Not only can we launch nuclear ballistic missiles at a nation and level all of its nuclear capabilities, but we also have the ability to retaliate at an opponent that attempted to do this to us (by means of nuclear submarines).

China's navy does not have this feature. They have about 56 submarines. 6 are Nuclear. The rest are diesel and have to resurface every few days or they will run out of oxygen. Because of this, they cannot get in range to launch nuclear weapons at the United States without being detected.

China also only has about 13 nuclear missile silos. We could very easily obliterate them if war arose as an option.

Both China and Russia are more concerned about an American first strike. Leaders with a lot of money, power, and very good lives will die if they decide to attack us. They do not want to forfeit what is a sweet deal.

So China's navy modernization is not a threat to the United States.

Rather, this is more about an attempt to obtain resources in the South China Sea and to resolve disputes with neighboring countries. They just built their first Aircraft Carrier. The plan for that is for force projection over that region.

Their other concern is Taiwan. Taiwan cannot be touched by China at present because Taiwan's airforce is infinitely better than China's. Most of China's aircraft are 1970s era and prior. Taiwan contracts with the US and has an extremely modern Airforce.

Currently the US is winning a containment game on China. We do so with our partnerships (South Korea, Japan, Taiwan). China is trying to press us on Taiwan and South Korea so that they can escape some of their containment issues.

    Sailorfag here, US type.

Thing is, China simply isn't as advanced as people like to think they are. Their diesel subs are pretty neat and quite, they got that.

But we can still hear them.

Their fighters are so pisspoor that they took (if I'm not mistaking the reference) footage from *Top Gun* altered it and claimed it to be theirs.

Their missiles? Not really a big threat. Chinese ship busters are generally vulnerable to AEGIS defense systems, and simply put, the Chinese do not have the experience with missiles that America has to get through the defense systems. (And I seriously doubt any form of ICBM from China will fail *miserably* the big thing with those is quantity, because X-many will fail and get shot down because of the inherent vulnerability of the bus-stage of warhead transit.)

Thing is, China's stick just isn't as shiny as America's is, no matter what the public gets all hyped up over. America actually has some scary good stuff, even with all the BS I see aboard my ship everyday. CWIZ is like a AK-47 Chainsaw Minigun from hell. You hear it run off for a second and more then 200 rounds have been placed in a specific spread.

On top of that, American ships are notoriously difficult to sink as of late. We're pretty goddamn anal about Damage Control, and we have way more experience with it then the Chinese.

So yeah, Army's spread thin, Marines are worn, Air Force is busy.

But the Navy has fucking been waiting for a fight. Give us the excuse, beetches.

China does not have a single one. In a posturing move they commissioned one of their own years ago that officially went into active service. It was built from scrap metal and operates only as a training vessels as its sill inoperable in any meaningful wartime capacity.

Each carrier in the US Naval fleet is accompanied by a fully outfitted battle group including destroyers, nuclear capable subs, and numerous aircraft.

    Do you?
Its 90% meaningless posturing with features on paper and only 10% useful innovation. Your next gen fighter isn't very combat effective when it needs 7 hours of maintenance for every single hour it spends in the air, and needs to be repainted every single time it flies through rain.

I have to call bullshit on that one. The US Air force and Navy combined have less than 10,000 aircraft total. The number of combat aircraft would be closer to 4,000. 18,000 must have been a typo.

I fucking hate nigger arguments like this one. "bawww if they did this then the gubbermint could spend less on that".

Do you actually think the US GovCo with their WATERFALLS of cash flow (both secret and above board) would take any savings from anywhere and put it back into YOUR pocket?

    Fuck me.

Negative, ghost rider. You think of combat air craft as just being bombers and fighters right? You forget gunships, UAVs etc. Not to mention every branch has 2000+ combat aircraft, not just the Chair Force and the Navy.

China is playing a defensive game. IE using their fucking heads. Force projection is a massive resource drain.

Carriers are sitting ducks. As Americans we love to flex nuts about our air and sea power (used against soviet-era/armed armies and nations) but attacking is always a risky game, and the Chinese have the capability to render the Pacific Fleet obsolete. Their subs can penetrate carrier groups and their missiles can strike a carrier before AEGIS can do shit.

    >>640554
    Hahaha oh wow.

You're duller than a church picnic if you think they'll tell a bunch of dipshit enlisted men anything important. And do you really believe they were being honest with you? They're not going to tell you that the Pacific Fleet is a massive, floating, money sink.

Stop being such a motarded POG faggot and realize the military is full of shit.

For a backwash third world shithole, India sure has a lot of carriers.

Anyway, pretty sure they're acquiring a few more Russian ones but still, I agree that the current state of China's military is laughable.

I'm not sure, so don't hold me to this, but I think every male citizen in China is reserve, which is how their propaganda machine makes it out like they have so many soldiers. Sure, they are technically soldiers, they lack training and China lacks the weapons and ammunition to arm all of them effectively.

Let alone do the more complex jobs above infantry.

To give you some perspective, the TOTAL number of American made attack helicopters has been around 3000. That's including those that were shot down, retired, and sold to other countries. There is simply no way we have 18,000 combat aircraft, no matter how loose the definition is.

Don't feel bad, though, many of those numbers are wrong.

While it's fun mental speculation it's not going to happen. Both countries are dependent on each other until the rest of the world decides to drop the US Dollar as the world reserve currency. Until then the rest of the world needs America no matter what some Swedish or German guy on 4chan says.

China wouldn't attack us unless provoked and we... Well I suppose we're more likely to attack them. China's defense system is impressive, but they don't have the means of prolonged force projection. Also they have nothing to gain from attacking the US. This is just them jockeying for power in the Pacific, trying to exert their dominance in the region. This wont lead to anything, it's just fun to speculate.

Why do you say that? Even now when troops are under fire in Afghanistan all they do is fucking hide and call in an air strike. There's no more assaulting positions or extended firefights when lethal, accurate, relatively safe and quick fire support is constantly available. Whether it be arty, mortars or air support. Perhaps against China it would be different, but somehow I doubt it.

Maybe it would be a bit different since Chine would have similar tech to rival them.
I have this feeling it would be like playing Defcon for them (the commanders and whatever people are at the top)
The winner is whoever manages to have the least casualties
