Some people did the raid because Hal was a racist prick who had it coming, some did it because Hal got some anons into trouble for their initial prank and wanted to show him the power of the internet, some just heard about it after it started and wanted in on it because it was amusing, some people thought anons went too far with some of the things they did to Hal, some thought anons didn't go far enough, some loved it, some hated it, and some didn't care either way.

4chan was completely split in their intentions behind raiding or not raiding Hal. In the end the reasons and motivations didn't matter, he was a popular target and people had at him. It was a chaos engine of intent that had a single outcome. And nothing of value was lost.
