A lot of you are college students or have went to college. Because of this, I could use some advice for you. I really need it.

I'm eighteen, went to high school.. and graduated in June 2009. My average during senior year was above ninety. I'm not going to college now, unlike most people. I want to go.. but I don't know how to do it. I no longer have a guidance counselor.. to hold my hand =/ I fucked up.. but I don't want to let this ruin me... my destiny hasn't been carved out just yet

    Please help..?

For someone like me, what exactly must I do to get into college (now that high school is over and I don't have anyone to assist me). Tips please....?

How do you make decent grades in school, but are too much of a dumbass to figure out how to get into a college?

Right, the public school system is a joke.

browse your options for a school you like, turn in a few applications, make your choice, get registered for classes.

then deal with all your financial aid and shit.

    it's pretty simple.

I just applied online to my University. Go to the website of your University of choice and look for an application or something. Fill it out. Wait to be accepted/unaccepted. You may also have to sign some agreements and whatever to allow your highschool to send the University your transcript. I'm sure you could go to your old highschool and ask to see a counselor quickly about all this. I doubt they'd just say no.

Apply to colleges you might want to go to for the Spring semester. Wait to see if you get accepted.

    Not so hard, is it?

Do we really want to send OP to college when he's so clearly lost?

Go back to basics, dude. What did you love as a kid? What did you like to play? Who were your imaginary friends?

Don't be what you want to be. Be what your 8 year old self would have been.

Also, make you sure, when you get accepted to a University or college, to talk to an advisor about your major, what credits you will need and everything else. Don't just randomly sign up for shit.

Talk to a counselor/recruiter at a school you want to go to. They will give you much better advice than 4chan ever could.

If you have no idea where you want to go, try a local community college; it's cheaper and you get real instructors instead of poorly paid graduate students as TAs. (I taught for a semester in graduate school. Believe me; we have more important things to be doing than preparing lesson plans for freshmen, such as our own damn classwork.)

These two post helped. But I don't know, I guess I'm looking for something more specific. The application process takes a load of time, as far as I know. I figured it'd be difficult to just apply and make sure I get in. I feel there's more to it, more that I need someone to show me.

    Eh..

But thanks you two. I will, likely, visit my guidance counselor. It'll be awkward going back.. but I'll do it if needed.

Yeah. It seems confusing and I don't wanna fuck up and do something I regret. It's why I need help.

Sounds simple.. but it isn't all that easy to do alone, with no knowledge on the subject.

Work or otherwise kill time productively until you are 24.(Self-Education in something you enjoy is a good place to start). When 24 you qualify for TONS of federal student aid and a significant amount of grant money. It'll be MUCH cheaper to go the college then than it would be now. Take the time in between to find out what is fun for you, try learning a couple things on your own and just living your life. Make it so that when you do start college you'll have no regrets.

Either way I'd certainly wait until 24 before signing up.. just financially alone it's so much more beneficial.

a high school education used to prepare you to be an adult

now? i have no idea what the fuck it does. i think high school is just state-mandated daycare. what the fuck is the point in teaching world history or biology or calculus if the fucking kids can't even figure out how to apply to an institute of higher learning?

    mother of god.

Not everyone is born with college educated parents.
