I'm American and I was taught cursive in 3rd grade. I barely use it but I still remember how to do it.

BTW I can't write in normal print(I can but not very fast and only in caps) and I live in the United States, but then again writing is becoming obsolete very very fast when you take computers into account. I only use the PIG DISGUSTING Imperial system when I'm forced to and I'm not fat.

As a North American (canada), I don't write in cursive, but I don't print either. I would say I have my own custom shorthand, and I would think most people do to.

I write in cursive, most of my friends do all the time, but this does not prove that most Americans can.

to be honest, I only remember enough of cursive to sign my name.
That being said, fuck cursive. I can get information out without trying to write it all pretty with extra loops and shit.

I like that we use the Imperial System. It's sort of a quaint traditional thing. It doesn't make as much sense but it does impart a certain character to the country, an individuality. And it's one of the few things we've got that does that.
