    89 KB How do I get a job? Anonymous of College Park,MD 08/04/09(Tue)20:15:35 No.4965976
I couldn't get a decent job on or off campus for a while before and during the recession. The first time I tried job hunting, it was nerve-wracking and frustrating. They had all of these "vacancies" and when I did come to inquire about the job, they tell me that the job was already occupied. I did got a on-campus work-study job though.

So anyway, post any advice for getting employment and post your job hunting stories in the past or current.

Keep trying. That's all you can really do.

I've always just applied online for jobs. No luck so far (no job experience).

    :/

Dunno what your background is but have you considered working in a lab? Furthering your studies? Just giving you one of my options for when I graduate.

You just have to keep on moving. Go to whole blocks and keep asking for managers, if you need a job theres simply nothing you can do but keep going at it until you've got one.

Don't be pushy, just keep at it. There's no guarantees here at all, you will probably go two three wees with a whole lot of nothing.

Also, if you are a decent writer you can find work on the net just typing shit up but its kind of hard to figure out how to get jobs, I have a friend though who works a day a week and is making enough to live comfortably by doing this.

The truly skilled way to get a job is to make friends and find out what they do and how they got into it.
Like, getting an A+ cert and studying up on computers then going for a geek squad job will serve you well.

Would it be a good idea to go work for a temp agency. I'd never thought about it till someone mentioned it and said they'd hire you if you were good enough.

I haven't a fucking clue where to even look, since it's kinda the architectural field. That or I guess anything AutoCAD maybe 3d modeling. I'm so not in the mind-set for how the real-world operates in businesses.

    4966015 here

I asked for a grocery store's manager before, and all he told me was to fill out an application like everyone else. :/ You think that's just a fluke or most managers will say the same thing? I feel like I'm just inconveniencing them after my fruitless first encounter with the manager.

Yes you will get this a lot. Try to at least leave a number or a resume with them, usually they are just giving you a lipservice but some do appreciate walk-ins.
