It's a social convention. From the 20's on when Blacks were allowed to function even a little on a social level, the blacks who wore the suits, conditioned their hair, and looked as Western as possible were more accepted into society. The reverberations from that can still be felt.

I don't know. I only eat health food. My diet consists entirely of complex carbs, vegetables, fruit (mostly berries), fish (mostly salmon & tuna), white meat (mostly turkey), & soy. I haven't had fried chicken in 3 or 4 years.

Ever since reading books like 'Black Like Me' back in early high school, I can't seem to get over the idea that even simple gestures that I wouldn't otherwise think about, like subtle facial expressions or eye contact or posture, could be construed by some as indications of hostility.
