I should mention that I live with my parents, and that I am closer to them than at any other point in my life, since they are the only people I have contact with anymore, and I need human interaction to survive, even if it's interaction with someone I would never have imagined that I'd want to be around. The last friend I has was an uneducated redneck welfare violent asshole, who I only befriended because he was my neighbor and I was living alone and had no friends. If I hadn't befriended him, I would have had no human contact of any kind pretty much 24/7/365, which I simply couldn't handle. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I'm looking for work right now and I've finished school, I figured that getting a job would help solve my problem, but I haven't managed to land one yet. I never have problems making friends, but I do have problems just walking up to a stranger and starting a convo(though I'd be fine if I were approached by someone else). If no one here wants to be my friend, or just looking to have a conversation with another human being, I suppose I'd like it if anyone who's ever been a hermit and is no longer one could offer some advice on how I can change my circumstances.

I have a car, so I'm willing to drive. Obviously if you could get the LIRR into Manhattan, that would be awesome, since I could take ferry + subway to meet. Even Queens would be fine, as long as it's nowhere I wouldn't feel safe traveling. I would prefer if I didn't have to drive since I get nervous driving to places I haven't been, and I don't really like driving in the rest of the city(it's much more nerve racking than SI) but I'm willing to do it if I have a chance to make some friends and lift myself out of this miserable existence.

I'm a very sociable person, I consider myself to be an intellectual sponge, so I have knowledge of and can talk about a wide variety of subjects. My major interest is reading, my favorite genre is humorous fantasy, my favorite author is Terry Pratchett and I mostly read scifi/fantasy books(much more scifi these days). I also read the new york times and other news sources, since I am very interested in politics and I like to know what's happening in the world. I'm not much into music, I'll listen to pretty much anything(mostly classic rock, though my favorite band is Sublime) - I don't really listen to the radio aside from NPR so I don't know anything about music from the past few years. I am a humorous person, and I enjoy laughing - tv and movies I enjoy most are comedies. If you are a gloomy ass person, I can probably still get along with you, since I'm in a pretty gloomy ass situation and we could always wallow in our misery together or something - I'd prefer to spend my time with someone having a good time, but right now I really just want to spend some time with other people. We could find each other annoying, but I'd be willing to take that chance by meeting with you in person even if we seem totally incompatible.(I'm willing to talk on AIM or the phone or something with someone before meeting up to see if we could get along at all, and obviously the fears asociated with meeting a stranger off the web).

I honestly never could have imagined myself in this situation before, but once you become a shut in, it can be very hard to escape. When I first started isolating myself, I wouldn't make any effort at all to meet new people and allowed myself to fall out of touch with all my friends. I'm finally interested in getting out and living life again, which is why I'm willing to go to great lengths to do it(plus I have a lot of free time on my hands aside from looking for a job).

The summer concert series is coming up soon, so NY anons could meet up for one of those, since it's a pretty chill atmosphere, plus if you decide you can't stand any of the people, you could always just listen to the music.
