The only way to really go about being a leader is to lead. Unfortunately, you need to be an alpha male most of the time for this to happen. You're probably the one that gets picked on in your circle of friends while the leader of your group at least gets to fuck the nerdy girls.

You have to learn to fully like who you are inside. You have to learn to stop making excuses and apologies for the person you are inside, and then you have to work to express that person inside. You have to stop trying to say things that others want to hear, and say the things you really want to say.

Also, you have to remember that people like Kirk generally get themselves into a shit load of trouble with people who outrank them within the group and they tend to not have that many friends because they piss the shit out of people on a regular basis. If you screw up everytime you try to take charge, it'll be even worse.
