All of chemistry's laws are derived from those of physics. It is the very definition of a non-total science, taken to the greatest extreme. It's physics as applied to materials, such that you don't have to understand anything to go about your work. If someone wanted to actually understand the world, they would certainly pick physics. Anyone that chooses chemistry over physics is in it for the greater salary.

In short, chemists are the whores of the scientific world (although I'd just barely call them more scientific than pre-meds in the first place).

No, it should be the other other way around:
    BS in Math
    MS in Comp Sci
    PhD in Physics

Because the actually tricky part of it will be in working with the strange interactions, and for that part you need an advanced degree in Physics. The Math is essential at an early stage for exceling in either of the other two.

But disregard that, here's the person who will actually get all the credit/money by owning your computer:

OP is right though. I'm proud of myself and my fellow God Tier. Know why? Because we actually deal with sciences and things that are tangible. Culture and religion hold back progress and that's just what everyone in the Shit Tier is all about. Music? English? Classics? Philosophy? You're all culture slaves holding back human progress.

As for Computer Science people, you know why you're just mid tier? It's because you don't actually contribute so much as facilitate and provide the tools for those in the Top/God Tiers. You don't suck, but you are mediocre at best. Sorry.

    Now you've graduated

Most of the time the various teachers ive had that teach business related classes just give us simple tests on whats in the book, the bulk of the class is a bunch of lectures and examples of how the world actually works. Since of course thats not written in a book anywhere its hard to come up with objective facts to base a viable test on. And none ive had are so full of themselves they expect us to take notes on the anecdotes they recount.

While I agree with you for the most part, I would argue that it's no coincidence that math describes reality so well. It happens because we designed it that way; our mathematical concepts are abstract, but in the end reality is what we based everything on.

and again, you see, we've departed entirely from the tangible world into that of abstractions. It is impossible to point at something, and say this is a negative value, outside of the abstraction of math. And then you are describing the math, not the reality.

    >>3822208

This is correct. But understanding the difference between math and science is critical; it is possible to disprove science through empirical observation- it is not possible to do this with math. Under science, if I said a 1x1x1 cube has a volume of 1, and i found such a cube with a volume of 2, i would then conclude my theory was false. Under mathematics, i'd conclude my cube was false.

yes, thats what ive been trying to say too!

Its not a coincidence that a system designed to describe reality actually works when used to do that.

If reality was different than what math described then math would also be different.

Its just a language. Before we had language people did not think in words and sentences in their head. That did not stop them from creating complex thoughts and ideas. Language was just a way to express reality with words. Math is just a way to express reality with numbers.

We can say things like "that plant over there is good to eat" because there are plants that are good to eat. Not a coincidence.

its all very common. Modern society has stressed specific degrees far past their actual usefulness.

Anyone who thinks you go to school to get a degree in a field you want to work in, and then get a job, is in for a rude awakening.

Just about the only people who get jobs in the fields they spend time getting degrees in are people with specialized degrees such as medical ones, or people who end up teaching.

Which is why i say its all about work experience. You should learn about things you enjoy instead of focusing on getting one degree or another. Eventually you will notice you are working in a meandering way towards something and you can go ahead and fill in the requirements.

my father went to college for years and years and YEARS. he was always taking a class here and there. Knew all sorts of stuff. Thats what schools are for, learning things, not getting degrees.

FACT: 800% of Mathematics majors are better than everyone else and are going to cure cancer and solve world hunger with their awesome power of numbers, because abstract concepts without a physical frame of reference (which would make them chemists, engineers, etc) is TOTALLY not completely useless.

FACT: Over 9000% of everything is made by someone who spent the first half of their adult life learning fancy ways to count.

    Okay, for some real facts:

    - People who study medicine don't do any research; they go through to become doctors, and therefore don't advance knowledge at all. Medical research is done by biologists, who are classified here as 'shit tier'.

    - This chart was created because some mathie decided to get on his high horse and show everyone how important he was by gauging the other programs at his university by some arbitrary standard of mathematical purity.

    - OP should take every single book, movie, and CD he's ever owned and throw it into a fire. You don't need that shit--it's beneath you. You have math.

    - Astronomy is as useless as philosophy. Separating them is a travesty.

Nothing to do seems to be a misleading way to put it. They are not derived from natural observation. They are derived from concepts. Of course, you might counter, concepts are derived from natural observation. This I dont' think is necessarily true. Science can exist without mathematics, and vice versa.

If you can, i'd advocate relocating to texas and taking high school teaching position. Texas has curious laws regarding teacher certification (you must have a degree in the field you want to teach), and the average pay there ~40k. If you want to continue on with your english studies, go phd or bust. better funding, better opportunities.

Also, kinesiology majors are such a huge percent of my school right now, ASU. What do those do after college, because right now if all the ones here stay on track, there's going to be a huge influx to the job market.

PS- psychology is a life science isn't it? You make no sense. This tier system seems completely arbitrary, as though based on the people you know from each major or something.

If I did that, business would be all the way at the fucking bottom. Business majors are dumbfucks for serious. They don't care about knowledge, just money, and wonder why their grades are so shitty. They're the ones who took all business classes in highschool (aka the easy classes) so that they could graduate 4.0 because that's all that mattered.

I did turn down oxford, but i have a friend at both oxford and cambridge that study history.

"difficult" is a loaded word, it assumes that history has the most intricate problems to solve and requires massive amounts of creative/critical thinking, more so than maths. It doesnt, (well it requires some obviously) but its mostly the shear work load that is difficult. Having to recall a retarded amount of boring facts, dates and names is difficult -hence the high failure rate - but the critical thinking required doesnt come close to the level of abilty required for high level mathematics.

Ah, university students. So naive about the real world.

It really doesn't matter what degree you have, or how smart you are - what matters when it comes to finding a job is knowing a lot of people across different walks of life. A high percentage of jobs (between 30% and 80% depending on where you are in life, but especially jobs for inexperienced students like yourselves) - come through social networks.[1][2][3]

Furthermore, creativity and intelligence are an asset no matter what field you are in - the top paying jobs require you to be coming up with new ideas and solving complex problems. Being a number cruncher or basic programmer is basically like being a robot. Welcome to the dead end. [4]

Creativity doesn't necessarily mean "art" in this case. Actually, if you've ever been to a 4th year show at your local college, you'd realize that a lot of very uncreative people go into art.

Creativity here simply means people who are able to come up with innovative solutions to complex problems, create new products, and perhaps even "problem finding". Some people in the classical arts are like this - and do quite well. Most just create tedious replicas of other work, and spew pomo bullshit while doing it.

Yes, if you are in the top 0.01% (i.e. IQ > 160) and are in a program like math, recruiters will come to you even if you lack most social skills. You still have to be creative in the sense I defined it (not just a human calculator, but able to solve, say, find collisions in cryptographic hashes).

Most people aren't in that position. Probably no one in this thread is in that position. Recruiters who come around to universities pluck candidates who are both personable and competent. But if you aren't able to build the right kinds of social networks, and are generally a dull number puncher, don't expect to go very far with it.

I could paint me and my friends and take the pictures home and show my parents and say "Look mom teacher liked my paintings I got 10/10!" and they would be proud. I could talk to girls about all the creative things I do and they would be interested. Nobody wants to hear about integrals. Not even my mom (I tried). You tell people you are an engineer and they hate you. I don't even know why. I hate them too though and I will be the boss so fuck them. Suck my dick. Well, we're clearly ranking these degrees on something, right? So either it's an arbitrary, personal value or some sort of quasi-objective value based on career options, marketability, and income. If it's the former, then consider mine just a suggestion of personal bias. If it's the later, then mine conforms nicely.

    >you summed up a post with a very linear point, consisting of ideas made by other people.

Yes, it's called synthesis. I took studies on two different things (the creative economy and the importance of social networks) and offered a possibility of how these interact. No one in the academic industry pulls their ideas out of thin air and works alone - the fact that we have complicated citation methods should attest to this. But I don't claim anywhere my point is genius, just that it is something to seriously consider.

    >and you're telling me to create arguing material for you?
I'm suggesting if you think my point is incorrect, offer specific criticism and a more plausible alternative. You have done neither.

you don't know what you're fucking talking about. 75% of that post you made is either a blatant redundancy of easily observable things from this thread. that, and your other misconceptions such as thinking my original post was implying that your idea was incorrect. it wasn't implying that.

so your plan to refute me was to make a derailing spiral of redundancies and fallacies. but then again, I wouldn't count on you for anything original and logical, since you're too stupid to form your own. and to think you called me incoherent. (more on your "incoherent" bullshit later on)

no, seriously. you have no idea what you're talking about. you have MISCONCEPTIONS written all over you. for someone who talks about academics and synthesis, I expected for you to not have such narrow thinking.

and about you calling me incoherent. in an argument, it is impossible to debunk a whole argument exactly about the original idea. this may come as a surprise to you, since you're fucking shallow, but ARGUMENTS RESULT BRANCHES! that's right! just because an issued statement is slightly different from the topic doesn't mean it's incoherent!
